So it's Thanksgiving, I got the turkey in the oven and went out to try to hover. I got her up and she would drift left badly. I put alot of subtrim in for the moment(I'll readjust the swashplate later Man, the last two weeks have been horrendous. Hover for a few seconds at a time, set it down, again and again. Every other day I get half way through the battery and duff into the ground, hitting the blades. Running to the store, getting blade grips and assorted other bent items. Two or three days, and duff it again. Never more than thirty second hovers. I should also mention that if it wanders more than a two or three feet, I set it down, drag it back to the starting point, and lift off again. Getting back to today(I tend to ramble!!).. It's 23*F out today and I get up into a hover the snow starts coming down really hard. You would think I lose my concentration. Oddly no. Something clicked inside, and it was smooth. I got a full battery hovering and when the timer went off, set her down, my hands shook from the adrenaline. I figured that was a good place to stop..on a good note! It's still snowing. The turkey is almost done. Maybe I can make it a week before the next duff!!haha
I guess my point is.. No matter how many times you put her into the ground. Keep at it. Don't give up!! And keep up with the SIM!! this is very cool....
    Take care...

Yep - sounds like my experiences - spend more time fixing than flying.. all I can say is that it does get better. I last crashed 2 weeks ago and I've flown a couple of batteries most days...

Problem is I'm in the danger zone now - standby for the next crash... there's a fine balance between enough and too much confidence!!

All the best mate and keep at it...

I agree about the fine line, I also think when you're just starting to get to the "getting off the ground stage", there is a lack of confidence. I mean that you work on the sim for hours and hours. crashes are free. then when you take out the real thing, and crash it the first time. you see your beautiful shiny Heli, go to hell in a handsack in about a New York Minute. that in itself is pretty demoralizing. so you get over cautious, at least I am. It's not a bad thing, jsut an obsticle you have to over come. I suppose I'll get too cocky and put her in the dirt, like you said after a couple of weeks in the "danger zone". I do have to adjust out the aileron. 40 points of subtrim is a little much, I would think...the swash plate looks square. It certainly is in elevator. Anyway, I appreciate the good thought, I just hope other newbies can learn to keep their heads up and keep with it, when it seems like you are getting nowhere fast. Oh, and the turkey was so tender, it just fell off the bone. It's still snowing...

              Good news about the turkey...

Part of the thrill of this hobby is that it isn't easy so you get a real sense of achievement when you DO stop crashing. For me, getting to a "comfortable hover position" was a big one so when things go wrong, nmopst of the time you can return to the safe zone!

I think a lot of people get demoralised by crashing and when you see an experienced pilot they make it look so easy...
