  • a little help/advice pls (beginner)

    hey

right i'm new here so pls don't be too technical yet thxs.

ok i've been given a RTF Pro Copter Sport to try out (if i like it i can then buy it for about £100) so i've read the manual and set everything up but i appear to have 3 problems:

Firstly, the 12V LiPro Battery that came with the device seems to give me only a few minutes (less than 5 minutes before the propellers seem to lose power). From my experience with cars I realise this could be down to the previous owner and charge time, etc., but I am wondering if there is any way I could recover any more of the battery life? Or how much/where would I get a replacement battery?

Secondly, since I am a total novice with regards to the helicopter, I’m not sure what to expect but whenever I increase power and the blades rotate faster, the helicopter just spins as the rudder seems to barely rotate, however, when the battery is dying and the blades are slowing the rudder speeds ups. Have I got a problem or is the gearing always that way round?

Finally, the third problem (which could relate to the previous) is that, whenever I turn the helicopter on and connect the battery, for some reason after the 10 seconds recommended, rather than the lights on the gyro going blue (as indicated in the book) they stay red and just stop flashing. Is this supposed to happen?

    thxs

    1. Look at a cellpro 4S if the battery is a bit dodgy or unbalanced that charger will fix it... otherwise a new battery. depends on quality 12-50... Is it all puffed up ???

2 It sounds like the tail is not driven (not familiar with this model) if its got a belt drive tail it sounds like its loose and the tail isnt being driven properly.

    3. Depends on the type of gyro some have red leds some have blue ones. it sounds like an esky one and yes yhey just stop flashing (twinkleing)

    4. Its a little un (jus bin an looked it up) Get a sim an practice... they about £70 for pheonix and it willsave you more than that in postage....

thxs for coming back so quickly! Ok if i can get the helicopter flying i'll check out a new battery and/or charger but i guess if i run this one down and up again i might get a little more use (fingers crossed).

Looking at it, it is belt driven from just bellow the rudder along the tube (frame i'm guessing) to the gear/cog at the back. Unfortunetly i can't check to see if it's slippying but for some reason as soon as a lower the throttle the tail blades rotate quicker (likewise when i do it by hand) but still not to any great speed. Would the belt be likely to slip at higher speeds then? then realign at lower speeds?

The belt is tensioned by moving the whole tail tube in and out (normally)... there will be a couple or as many as 4 screws in the body of the heli by where the tail boom mounts. these need to be slackened and the tail moved to change the tension. Its normally about right when you can move the belt just behind the drive pully so you get around 3mm of move ment with gentle pressure. (half the way across the tail tube)

hi mate welcome to the forum if you hold the main blades so they don't turn and then try and rotate the tail blades they shouldn't move if they do it could be the gear slipping on the shaft

Small helis are difficult to learn and easy to break. There are some vids of your heli on youtube. Coaxials like the mcx are an easier way to start. Have you flown models before?
