  • XRB SR Lama Heatsink

    Hi Guys,

I was browsing the web the other day and came across a site that sells heatsinks for the XRB SR Lama motors on a made to order basis. I should have bookmarked the site as I can't find them anymore . Anybody got any ideas where I might be able to get them from ?

Never mind guys, I've just spent more time on the web looking and it's paid dividends. Galaxy Models sell them for 14.99 / pair. I think it's an extremely worthwhile investment for anybody with a Lama that is looking to keep it flying as long as possible. Ordered myself some more blades as well.....just in case.

      Hi Gunner

I think the site you meant was here: http://www.geocities.com/rickyblaze_rc/index.html

I bought the extension lead (don't have to take the canopy off to change batteries) and a replacement battery from Rick. Excellent, much better than the original, 850mah three wired for balance charging with original Hirobo charger and half the price. Arrived from the US in 69 hours from clicking on pay through Paypal on his site!! I haven't bought his heatsinks yet but as he is an enthusiast and a gent to deal with I'm sure they are the biz. At only $7.50 (about 4.50) including postage to UK got to be worth a try plus he gives full instructions on his site!. I checked out the Galaxy site and they make no mention of thermally conductive paste and all their prices for both kits and spares seem quite high.

I get all my replacement parts from Hong Kong:

RC Mushroom are very good. Postage is a little high for one off items (still cheaper than buying in UK) but doesn't increase much for multiple items which makes them excellent value overall.

I recently purchased replacement blades at $6.93 per box (less than half UK price) and a cockpit interior for $11.50 which arrived in about 5 days.

Small orders like this that arrive in a jiffy type bag marked "Toy Parts" seem to slip in under the Customs radar. I've not had to pay duty or Vat yet

The cockpit interior looks great. There is a slight weight penalty which means I have to move the battery back a little to maintain C of G but have not noticed any change to flight characteristics or duration.

Still having a blast with my XRB after 5 weeks or so without any serious damage so far 8)

      HTH

Cheers for the reply Tom. Those prices from Hong Kong look great, especially the coreless motors (which are 40 over here), although I hope I won't need to be replacing motors just yet.

The Ricky Blaze stuff looks great. I see he's even selling a new carbon body for the Lama and the video of him flying the Lama outside is amazing.

As for the thermal paste on the heatsinks, I always build my own PCs (and all of the families), so I'll use some Arctic Silver 5, which I use between the heatsinks and a CPU. In the PC world (where processor cooling is very important), it's about the best you can get, so it's gotta be good for this application as well.
