  • zoom 400 motor pinion

I have the 380 brushed motor and the pinion is sitting to high on the motor shaft and only catching the top half of the main gear thus chewing up said main gear(teach me to buy second hand of ebay). This being my first heli can anyone give guidance on how to move the pinion down the shaft without doing any damage,i assume there is a trick to this and not just a good hammer andpair of pliers.

Assuming it's a metal pinion and an interference fit, the best way is a pinion puller assuming you can get the puller around the pinion and get purchase on the end of the shaft.

GWS do 2 different size ones.

There are other ways but you could bend the shaft...

If your still using the original tail drive system -- remember that the motor pinion also drives the crown gear for the tail shaft,as well as the main (Large Gear wheel) and that must only mesh with one side of the crown as obviously the thing won't drive.

The best way to adjust pinions is as already mentioned -- GWS pullers there cheap to buy about 7 . These will remove pinions without any strain on the motor. To move a pinion further onto the shaft I use a vice to press them on -- making sure that the other end of the shaft is pressing onto the other jaw of the vice -otherwise you will damage the rotor.

Cheeers Guys, the heli has the belt conversion already fitted so it doesn't need to be so high i,ll give it ago in the vice and see what happens if i damage it i'll just have to go and buy a brushless set up what a nuisance.I should be joining my local club this week as its their first meeting of the new year i've been told their a good bunch so hopefully the knowledge will start to grow from here on in.
