  • I've gone from fp to cp and need help.

    Hiya,

I decided it was time for me to move up to a cp heli from a 300 fp, so I thought rather than go for a big heli with a very fast spinney thing that would cost lots to repair I would go for a Twister 3d >>>> oh noo ! i hear you say .... I know it's a bit of a toy, but I thought it might give me a bit of an insight to the holy grail that is cp and all that entails.

Sooo as a result of my kid in a sweet shop purchase I have a couple of questions I'm sure you fellas' will help me with ...

    Oh ! I should say I have a spektrum DX6i and ar6200 ....
Erm .. where does the 3rd servo plug into, I'm ok with the ail, ele, tail etc .. and every esc I have had before has been plug and play .. fine .. but the one I bought today ( EnErG)has 3 yellow wires going toward the motor side , I'm used to a red blue and black ... does it matter which one goes to which ?

Well that seems like it ... Oh no it's not .. I forgot ... If anyone can give me a good insight to setting up my tx .. I know finless is there, but he's American and I'd much rather someone typed to me in English ( I've only done expo so far ) I would be most gratefull.

    Happy Halloween

    Bear with me

    Thanks,

    Dave

3rd servo.. channel aux (6) look in the blade 400 section for settings and there should be dx61 settings in the back of your manual if not download a new manual from j perkins.

the three wires can go anyway and if the motor spins in the wrong direction change around any two

the storm aint no toy becarefull it will bite!!

Mate the Storm is no toy, she's the same largely as my precious Blade 400, but cheaper, most parts are the same, Blades, main shafts certainly. She can and will bite if you're not careful with her. I'd no more want to get hit with it than with a 500...

Have fun though mate, I'm sure she'll see you right for a while.

3 wires on the motor means it is a brushless motor, and the wires can go anywhere, like it says above, just check it spins the right way! enjoy!

            Dave

I made the same move (to a Blade 400 rather than a Storm) a month or so ago and all the mistakes I made in the first week are here:-
            http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/f105/b...progess-14756/

Best advice I can give is take it slowly and use training gear! The learning curve for CP vs FP helis is MUCH steeper and takes a lot longer to master, but ultimately, each step is all the more satisfying because of that!

Oh, I'd but a few spares too - main shafts and feathering shafts seem to be the most common thing I break, but I've also done a few sets of blades, a belt and tail pulley, a set of skid supports and a few sets of servo gears!!

Kepp posting on how you're getting on... this forum's an inspiration when things are going wrong and there's loads of real experts who will offer advice based on experience!

            All the best

Thanks for the words of encouragement Graham,

I fully intend to take it very slowly, I should get the electrics set up today so may be able to spin it up later.
I feel as nervous with this heli as with my first fp .. almost to scared to push the throttle up ! remember that feeling ?

              Thanks again,

              Dave.

What do you mean remember? - still get the feeling when it first spins up!!!

The first time it starts drifting towards you is another tense moment!!

I'm replying to your PM at the mo!

I've seen Gary's Twister Storm 3D fly many times and it's no light weight in the power dept.

Its a sound machine that'll grow with you, plus the alloy parts really look the dogs nuts.

Good purchase mate, but make sure she's tamed a little before your first outing, as she really is rigged for speed.

Just make sure you buy some good batts Gary was impressed with a few of my Maxpoly 3S 2100mah's, and they fit in the Heli a treat.

                  Good luck Bro.

                        Thank you Stevie,
I do have a set I used with my compy 300, but thank you anyway, very kind of you.

Well over the weekend I managed to get the servos working as they should and spin it up with just the paddles on .. I see what everyone means when they say be carefull ! I was amazed at the headspeed at less than half throttle.
Hopefully today I'll be able to sort out the gyro and pitch/throtle curves.
I know I'm fumbling in the dark a bit but it is a good learning excercise.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for all your help.

                        Dave.

                          Hi Dave

In case you haven't seen it, take a look at http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html

This for me would have been very helpful early on... the contra rotators are great for building confidence, but for me, the step to a "proper" heli is huge.

Just take it very easy to start with and build confidence slowly.. my current problem is that I fly it around for a bit and all is well so I think, "OK I can do this" then it turns into an odd orientation and (as Martin Brundle would say) I'm heading straight to the scene of the accident!!

One other tip that you may have picked up from Boggy's settings - in the early days, you don't want too much negative pitch as you'll want to drop the throttle fairly quickly to get back on the deck. If you do this with lots of negative pitch you'll drive it into the ground and the blades will hit the boom.

Most heads on these models are (I think) set up for -12 to +12 pitch or so which is why the "low" position in Boggy's settings is about 35% giving about -3 as the negative pitch value at low throttle setting.

If this doesn't make sense, post a reply and I'll try to explain better!!

                          Keep us posted mate

                            Oh one more thing !
I have my gyro (Airtrix A500-G) wired up ok except for the yellow lone wire, the diagramme shows it going to the aux channel, but thats where I have my 3rd servo ??

                              Hi Dave

If you're using a Spektrum AR6100 (like mine on the Blade 400) the plug with the yellow wire goes into the "gear" channel (which is next to the rudder socket). This is to allow you to change gyro gain values using the Gear/gyro switch on the DX6i.

                              Hope this helps
