  • Mini Titan as first CP?

    Hi,
I am currently thinking of buying my first 'proper' heli, after messing around with my Cx2 all summer. I was thinking of getting the mini titan, but before i do, i thought id ask if you guys agreed on this model as a first cp heli? I am not interested in 3D flying, just general flying about, and i wondered is there anything i should be aware of with the mini titan, for example, is it any harder to fly than similar models, does it have any quality/reliability issues, that sort of thing.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

You should also consider the Trex 450v2. The reasoning behind this choice is there are loads of people on this forum who know the heli inside out, where as the Mini Titan dosent seem to come up in conversation as much.

Spares are very easy to come by for the 450.

Its worth doing a bit of reading and making your own comparison between the two.

      Cheers Aidi,
I did briefly consider the Trex 450, is it a better heli for a beginner? Maybe the fact that it seems to be more popular speaks for itself......

If you can afford it go for the SE... the stock plastic head Mini Titans seem to develop tracking problems. Ive found the fix is to get the top metal mixing arms but there was an article in one of the last issues of MHW about another method and how to cure it. Was something to do with taking out the vector angling on the main blade grips by shortening the grip arm. As a whole ive found the mini titan just like its big brothers (the raptors). It flys nice, is very stable but can also be setup to be quick. It is very predictable just like the Raptor. Others may suggest a Trex 450 SE V2 but it has always bugged me this simply because people are comparing a plastic heli to a full metal/carbon one. Pretty obvious its gonna fly better lol. Now if ya compare a MT SE then they aint far off the same IMO. Im lucky enough to own both and dont like one better than the other so its down to personal prefrence. Theres quite a few pics of mine in my gallery. I had 2 but recently turned one into a scale cobra and then sold it. Both started as stock mini T's and were upgraded to SE spec. http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/galler...php?photo=2916

The Min Titan isn't a bad heli at all. It's pretty robust and spares are pennies although the head & tail do get a bit sloppy. It's more stable than a Trex 450 too.

If you're looking at spending for a Trex 450 also consider the Beam E4 from Evolution RC, just under £260 for the kit with Scorpion motor & speed controller and everything is metal, no upgrades needed.

Thanks guys, i understand about the SE spec being a worthwhile improvement, my plan is to upgrade to this as i go along. Will probably buy the basic mini titan kit with motor and ESC, and upgrade to SE parts as i break/wear out standard parts. I know i will bury the heli at some point, so doesnt seem worth spending extra for hi spec stuff at first, because i will trash it! For the same reason, i wont buy a more expensive heli, i love what ive seen about the Beam E4, the Outrage G5, and the Furion 450, but i cant really justify the added cost right now, and the extra quality and performance of these models would probably be lost on me at the moment.

Everyone will say get what you pay for! but a lot of what I've read not just on this site Mini T's are very good for beginners and to hovering if used with high tech servo's and gy401.
I used to have the Trex450 and move over to the Mini-T SE and fitted the high tech & 401 and she so stable I can hover about 3 to 4 ft of the ground let go of controls for few seconds at time much longer.
But I do think its more down to looks when buying a heli.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

You can still get the 450se V1 for £190 all metal everything and come with alloy case for spares plus a battery, thats a 100 quid less than the V2 version.
I know the Hobby hanger still stock these, i bought one a year ago and still use it all the time, is a fantastic heli.

The Mini Titan is a very good learning platform for your first CP heli, there are other cheaper ways to upgrade it as well, apart from the original manafacturer cnc upgrades.

I have upgraded mine with the sonix upgrades and it is a very stable flier (of course a lot of this is down to how you set it up)

I learnt to fly with the Mini Titan and would reccommend it as a first heli. I have flown a t-rex and found it to be a much livelier machine. The mini T is a very stable heli in comparison.
Parts are easy to get and as simplyraptor has done ,i also have used sonix upgrades with good results.
Good little heli, I have had mine in use for over a year and with a bit of maintenence and a lot of repairs she is still going strong.
It is definately worth getting descent servos (HS65mg) for the cyclic, gyro (Gy401) and tail servo (s9257) from the start.
                      you'll love it!!

I dont know what else to do to make it more responsive? I have some light weight paddles and all throws are at max! It now has a scorpion -8 motor and 55a esc.

So your telling me the TRex 450 is livelier?
stick radix mains (see u already have the mains) and tails on it and the new stubz paddles and then tell me what you think. So what your throws set to then?
