  • First hover without training legs!

I have only had about 7 days flight time, using the Raptor 30 with training legs. Today I attempted my first hover without training legs using the Trex 450 I've just got, purely and simply due to the legs not turning up in today's post.

Its all pretty nerve racking but the 25 mins of take off's and landings went without too much drama. Only once did I think I had lost it!

Thing is do I try the same with the Raptor on Sunday???

Well done mate! As to should you try on your Rappy? Well that's up to you!

Above all else, have fun! If your nerves aren't ready for the Rappy training-gear less then don't bother yet.... If your flyign ont he 450 was nice and in control then go for it!

How about using the 450 to build your confidence a little first then when you're comfortable whip em off! (The training gear that is!!!!)

Sorry but I have too ask, where did you purchase your 450 canopy from?

That has to be the best looking front end I've ever seen on a Rex 450.

                Cheers mate.

If you can hover then land the 450 without gear, you will have no problem with the Rappy

Just take it slow and if it's windy or you feel uncomfortable doing it without the gear don't do it. Put it on and try and take it off when ready but I guarantee it will be easier on the Rappy

Ok guys I'll give the Rappy a go...

@cambs flyer - the canopy is from ZIPRC and is a Canomod one.

                    hope this helps.

Well I guess it was too windy for the Trex 450 today.
I bottled flying the Raptor as the field was extremely and it was very windy. Instead I opted to fly the 450 in the back garden thinking the hedges would provide some cover from the wind.

                        HOW WRONG I WAS!

Twisted the tail, snapped both tail supports, bent the feathering spindle, guessing the mainshaft is bent. Think that's it for now.

The hover was fine, all of a sudden a huge gust of wind picked it up and dumped it side on in to the ground. I suppose it could have been worse, if the ground hadn't been so soft.

Oh no mate, thats a right ****er!

Yesterday was well windy here, but check out my "I luv me 500" thread, I managed to fly my 450 in terrible conditions in a very open area, OK it was a busy flight but never once did she loose it.

My Idle up is flat lined at 75%, and my Idle up pitch curve is the same as my Normal pitch curve, so the head speed is constantly going like the Privy door when the plagues in town, so the Pitch controls the up & down rather then changing the head speed to do so*, and it works fantastically, and comes into it's own not just for superb Tail authority, but helps you tackle those odd gusts and general constant strongish winds.

Anyway I hope your bird is repaired and polished real soon Bro.

Buy yourself the Align Carbon Steel main shafts there practically crash proof in the extreme.

*(I've got my buddy Lee to thank for this BTW)
