  • newbie with a night ranger 2

    Hello all,
I am a complete novice and have been sold a Viper Night Ranger 2 micro Rc hellicopter. All complete in the box ready to fly. Push throttle forward and make minor set up adjustments. Push throttle stick further even more the the copter will hover infront of you. Oh yes!!!
Can any one give me some advise or it it just practice. It it that because this helli is so small that there is no derterming which way it will go on takeoff. Does any one have any tricks???
I have made my own larger landing gear out of fiber glass and foam which works and have manged a 30 second flight(yippe) but that was more luck than judgement.
    regards,
    A totaly hooked newbie. 8O

    hi myworld ,
    welcome to the heli world,
firstly as you say its practice practice practice,
i dont know the viper but i assume it must be a micro electric good idea training gear it will help you initialy,i am definately not the best pilot in the world but will try to help you,
firstly assuming all your controls are reacting the right way just ease up the throttle till its light on its skids and notice what happens if its pretty stable (not spinning or leaning too mutch one way or the other left or right backwards or forward) if it is doing one of these adjust the trim on your tx for that control i.e if its leaning forward move the trim on the elevator back a notch till its sitting pretty level,
after your happy its pretty well trimmed add a bit more power and notice where it wants to go the secret is small inputs on the controls if it wants to go left you add a bit right aileronall the more you do this you will get the hang of controlling the heli,
you also have whats known as ground effect this is the heli is in disturbed air till its about the height of the rotors and acts differently,
again its practice, hope this helps you.
i am sure some more experienced pilots on this site will also help you
    flying better all the time

it is getting harder every day to keep track of all these micro helis so many names!

a quick google shows it to be the same beast as a mini dragonfly.

micro helis arent the easist of things to fly and if you cant fly them its even harder to get them setup so they fly nicely.

I well setup micro is still not easy but a badly trimmed one will be next to impossible even for us more experienced pilots.

Your best bet is to find one of the local indoor flying sessions that tend to go on at sports halls. Best wat to do this is to contact the BMFA and find your local "proper" flying club.

go along to the indoor flying and find somebody that can fly helis to trim it out for you.

      where abouts are you based?
