  • London Indoor RC Heli club?

    Hi,

I'm very new to the RC Heli hobby I've had a couple of toys before but I'd really like to move onto a proper heli. I like the small indoor electrics:
    Buzzflyer Buzz Fly 2.4G;
    Minimum AD Caliber; or
    Walkera HM 4-3B 2.4G.

I've read alot of the beginners introductions, I know that a CX would be better, but I really like the above listed helis.

Before I part with any hard earned cash I'd really like to see some copters in action and talk to some people involved in the hobby.

Does anybody know of any regular heli clubs in London?

    All suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Ben

Ben, welcome to the forum. I suggest you start with reading this link and advice given. My only advice is start with a coaxial and NOT a fixed pitch(FP) heli..............you will learn much quicker that way!Good Luck

The GAUI 100 SE Pro is a good indoor heli. I love mine. Might be expensive (and labourious) to crash, though.

I've read alot of the beginners introductions, I know that a CX would be better, but I really like the above listed helis.
A co-ax might be a good idea to start with.

Before I part with any hard earned cash I'd really like to see some copters in action and talk to some people involved in the hobby.

http://www.crushkilldestroy.co.uk/carp/ has videos of a Buzzfly (Walkera 4#3) and GAUI EP100 3 blade. (Interesting heli, and I got on well with it, but SE Pro is probably a better bet.) Shot in Central London...

Does anybody know of any regular heli clubs in London?
                Interested...

I live round Manor House and work south of Victoria. So anywhere central or North is good. Does anybody know anywhere convenient?

I have a airhog helix that's OK but the co-axials just don't seem to be as pretty as the FP. I appreciate that the airhog falls into the toy category.

Still I'm happy to take advice rather than writing off expensive helis.

I'll look into the info posted so far.

                  Thanks for the help.

                  Ben

The CP ones are sexier than FP. But they're more complicated, and there's more to repair...

You probably want to do your crashing on the cheapest, simplest heli that will let you learn the next steps.

Co-axes are good for learning the controls and the like.

A Buzzfly/Walkera 4#3 is fairly hard work to fly (easier with training gear), but does crash well, and is living room-friendly.

A GAUI SE Pro is more stable than a Buzzfly, and higher spec. But it's more expensive, and less crash-friendly.

How about new the E-Flite mCX.
I found it great to learn the controls on and it seems to stand up to some hard landings
Indoors only though but it means you get to fly when the mood takes you.Had mine for a week now and cant put it down.

For what it's worth from one beginner to another, I started with an Hirobo XRB SR Lama dual concentric rotor heli which tought me to hover and orientation, and flying round the room and outside in calm weather, and I then moved on to the Hirobo Quark SRB single rotor fixed pitch and I am flying this indoors and outdoors. For both I have only ever broken rotor and tail rotor blades (foam) and had to buy no spares despite many crashes. Cur the throttle before it hits and they both survive well.

I now have an Outrage G5 on order and plan to sell the XRB. The Quark is a great 'real' helicopter mini helicopter and will teach you real skills safely.. However I think the dual rotor jobbie is best to start with. The Hirobos are not cheap - but you do get what you pay for in enginerring and design quality - and save money in the long run.
