  • Spectrum Radio

    Hi
I am thinking of upgrading to a decent Spectrum Radio. Do i need to fit a compatible receiver in each of my Heli's
or will the radio work with the existing receivers

I have an Esky Lama V4 and a Twister CP V2.1

Spectrum is on 2.4Ghz. as far as I am aware a Twister CP V2 is 35Mhz so will not be compatible. Not sure about the Lama byt asume it is the same.
I do not think that is an achievable upgrade, but I am sure someone will correctme if I am wrong.

      Thanks Rob
You are right, both the Lama and Twister are 35mhz. so forgive my newbie ignorance but how does the Spectrum work in other words does it come with a receiver that you fit in to the heli. so that it only works that particular heli. I was under the impression that you could program it to be compatible with several models
      Thanks John

Each transmitter has a unique identifier in it. When you are setting up a helicopter, you 'bind' the receiver to the transmitter; the receiver then remembers the transmitter's unique identifier, and also the model memory number and will refuse to respond to anything else.

So you can bind any number of receivers to the transmitter, if you wish, but each receiver will only respond to one transmitter.

Binding also sets the 'failsafe' values that the receiver will go to whenever it can't detect a valid signal from the bound transmitter. So in addition to binding before first setting up (so the receiver will talk to the transmitter), you also have to rebind once set up, to set reasonable failsafe values.

          Thanks
Are you saying that a spectrum transmitter can be programmed to link to my Twister CP V2's existing non Spectrum receiver

Don't think this will work - 2.4 Ghz and 35Mhz are completely different. Some radios have interchangable modules but they seem to be the high-end ones...

I guess you could buy a DX7 and 2 receivers (one for each model) and then fly both from the DX7. You may have problems though as I think some of the smaller helis have a combined receiver and speed controller (My Blade CX2 does) so you would have to add a speed controller as well.

Don't quote me on this and hopefully someone more knowledgable will confirm or correct the above....
