Futaba 9C or the JR PCM 9X

As the title really or are there any other radios that i should look at?

I am going with a bear radio to start with so i can learn on a sim so will be looking for servo's and gyro separate later.

Will both be good enough for the reflex sim to start with then a raptor 50 after?

I would like to eventually get into 3D and dont want to change radio's in the near future.

Is the JR PCM 9X II the best/latset model?

Where is the best place to pick a radio up from?

Sorry for all the questions... Cheers mike

They will both do the job fine.

I'd vote for the JR but I have one so it's probably not unbiased

I tried both just hated the Futaba software

there really isnt much in it between the 2 radios. Some prefer the way the 9x sits in your hands, the 9c software is a lot more flexible in terms of switch assignment.

other than that there really isnt much in it! I dont think you can buy the 9x with the tx only. You will save money in the long run buying it as a package deal anyway.

9x V2 comes with Synth module (no tx xtal required) R900 9 channel S class PCM receiver, 4x DS811 ball raced servo's, switch harness, transmitter and receiver nicads, charger and crystals,

          for about 490ukp

I think the 9x comew with an 1100nicad which is a bit small for a 50 size helis this comes out at an extra 20ukp .

          9c isnt a synth as standard but you can buy a module for them comes with;
          R149DP channel PCM receiver
          4 X S3001 Servo's
          Switch Harness
          Transmitter and Receiver Nicads
          Charger
          Crystals

          370ukp

again the battery that comes with the 9c is useless in a heli, also the servos arent as good. you will need a better servo for the collective this will cost about 25ukp

pretty big difference in price between them.

the final thing is what the guys at the local fly as chances are they are going to be helping you set the model up so it helps them help you if you use what they use. If your joining us at DMHC then it doesnt matter either way I know both very well.

JR pcm 9x for me. You can buy just the TX and battery by the way. Or at least you could a few weeks back.

If i went for the JR 9x for a controler for now what would be the best servos and rx for the unit for a raptor 50?

the servos and rx that come with the package are ideal which is why I recomended the full package

the DS811s arent the quickest servos in the world but are pretty accurate.

There isn't any issue with switch assignments on a 9x  , if you were talking about a 3810, that'd be a different story

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

I personally prefer the Fuatab 9z. I picked mine up secondhand for 265. You can program anything into it, make anything do anything, so flexible. Also its the only radio with flight conditions for each model. However i do agree that JR sticks feel better, although felt that the 9x didnt have the functionality it could do.

Paddy, I think you mis-typed, I believe you meant "Mode" rather than "Model".

Unfortunately you're also factually wrong as well. Most JR radios have all the necessary "flight conditions" in each mode (certaily the 9x, 3810, and PCM 10).

I think it boils down to which one you prefer to program. I use the Futaba because I've always used Futaba and so I know how to program them and it's a breeze. But there's very little differnce between the two except for one thing - the sticks and the timers. The JR definitely has a nicer feel to the sticks but the flight timers can only be activated by a switch whereas on the Futaba you can have the timer start and stop when you move the torttle away from zero. I find this indispesible for when I'm flying with LiPos (I'd never remember to flick a switch to start the timer) - it's only a tiny problem and if it's your first Tx you'll just get used to it. My advice would be - buy whichever is cheaper.

Futaba 9C super TX only was 200 from Inwood Models. Admittedly, I only saw this at Sandown and Wings & Wheels. Check there website, they might still be offering it at this price.

the 9z is a very powerful radio but lacks user friendlyness in a number of key areas. It was this reason that I got a 14mz but thats a different storey

the menu system in the 9c and 9x are very similar the key difference is that the 9x comes with a synth module as standard and the 9c has much better flexibility of switch assignment.

i am yet to play with a 9c super, i am not sure what the differences are between the 9c and 9c super anybody know?
