  • Problem with Mini pred 3d and some newbie questions

Iv just got myself a wee mini pred 3d to learn on, iv had many model planes but this was years ago

Anyway i have one problem so far with the model and a few questions in general

The main problem is with charging, the booklet that came with the instuctions isnt very helpfull, and also the charging pack that come with the kit is different then the one in the booklet

The one that is in the booklet has a dial that you can turn to select the current

Well the charger that i have is a small blue box that has 2 led's, one red and the other green, it says that when charging is complete the green led will show, however when i plug the batter into the charger both the green and red led show, now you would think that in time the red led would go out leaving the green on and telling you that the batter is full charged, but this dosnt happen, the green goes out intead and i can only get a few monents out of the batter when im trying to practice, any help with this??

Now the instuctions are rubish, it tells you nothing reall about the helli itsefl, when i first plug the batter pack into the heli a small red led shines on the gyro thing, whats dose this indicate?

Also when i plug the batter in it bleeps a few times?

And finaly if i dont turn on the controller first the tail rotor wont vary its pitch, but if i turn the radio on first, then plug the batter to the model im able to operate the rudder, any info on this

Sorry for the long winded story but the instuction that come with the model leave alot untold i think

    Any help would be great

i used to have a pred iirc you are getting a charge error. you will need to get the battery "kick started" take it back to your local hobby shop and ask them to give it an initial charge hopefully this will recover it.

you should always turn your transmitter on first before plugging in the battery and always disconnect the battery before turning your transmitter off.
the little red light shows you that the gyro is initialised (ready) then you will get tail control. dont move the heli or touch the controls after plugging in till this is lit and steady!

and yes the instuctions are puke. "dont forget always be charging a batteries in the breezy place!!!" was one instruction i remember

oh and wecome to the forum Ian

Welcome to the forum mate, congrats with your purchase.

I'd ground the MP for now, have someone look at it so she's flight worthy, Ron's 100% on the ball as always, but have you had any Sim practice? This is always raised in the conversation as it you haven't this needs to be purchased and have many hours training before you take control yourself.

In a way the battery problem has been a gift from the Gods, as if your a complete rookie and had zero flight time under your belt, had you been able to power her up she'd be well broken by now.

I can't emphasize how important this is, you have no idea right now what's involved flying CCPM machines, plus the 'Pred is a lively bugger and knowledge before hand is is paramount just to practice the basics for real, being simple tail in hovering.

Apart from everything else it's dangerous to attempt flying until you have some knowledge of Helicopter flight dynamics.

Get the batt sorted, and while your at the LHS buy yourself a copy of Phoenix, once set up you'll realise how difficult this really is, I don't mean to put you off, just gain some Sim practice at least 15 hours minim, IMHO 30 would be more realistic, as you also need a little knowledge what to do when in trouble, this is something which is really understood once flying for real, hence why it vital to cram the Sim practice in before any first flight.

            Best of luck mate.

Of course your probably right to a point!

The thing is that you only have to save a few crashes and youve got the money back! So I'd say while not essential its certainly desirable! Why make life hard for yourself?

Not everyone will be so lucky learning to fly by trial and error.

I use Phoenix and its certainly helped me.

Er I never used a sim for years.. I could never get on with them in the days of the CSM sim and then my computer could never run one until early this year.

So I got to where I am roughly now without a Sim.

Those that use Sims advance faster thats for sure but there not a 100% requirement.

But if you can get on with a Sim I'd say there WORTH having and do help a LOT

I think you'll find this has nothing to do with Phoenix, but more of a personal attack on me just because I try and help out as much as poss'.

And I try to pass on the excellent advise Ron and the others gave me when I first started out!
