  • exhaust nuts & threadlock

Having recently finished my Trex 600n build, with everything threadlocked, I think I've now found out that I shouldn'tve threadlocked the nuts that hold the exhaust onto the engine!

The info I've recently been told is that treadlock under heat will liquify, so when the nuts now become loose, the threadlock acts like a lube & helps em slip off that much better.

    Is this correct?

Zoom, rather than worry about it just fetch them out and give them a clean. A nice fine smear of 5 minute epoxy on the exhaust works lovely!

There is no need for thread lock on the exhaust. Most exhausts don't have lock nuts and the screws do not come undone. The screws that hold the head, backplate and carb require no threadlock and they do not come undone.

If for extra security or because your exhaust is not threaded and you need to use locknuts then you can get Areotight nuts from modelfixings.

I just use Nylocs, after the first flight, tighten them up and all is good, the nyloc nylon doesnt last but the tightening under expansion does and they then dont come loose.

Thanks for your answers folks. That'll be the treadlock getting cleaned off then. I already have the lockwashers, just went ahead & threadlocked em anyway....

            Thanks again

You have the right idea, its completely pointless using threadlock on things that get hot.

I use heat proof engine locktite on mine and a smear of epoxy to join the two surfaces.

must disagree about loctite on hot parts being pointless mine is rated to 300degrees

                  Ok, normal locktite then....
