  • Throttle Sticking?

    Hi all, I finally got my Concept 46VR in the air and have just done my first flight without training u/c :lol: The heli has started to develope a strange fault though, as I get o about 3/4 it lifts no problem but when I land again the throttle seems to stick open, making the ebgine scream along at flight rpm but on the ground, finally around 1/4 throttle it drops down to normal RPM. Any ideas? The throttle servo is definatley working, and moving the arm.

    Hi
    re-check the throttle/pitch curves.. it may be the reason.

    I had silmar issue and evened out my pitch/throttle cuurves
    better and hey presto it behaves now.

      Hi Dean,

      It may be that you have somehow got the two flight modes, Normal and Idle up 1 confused. In normal mode you need the throttle to drop off smoothly as you bring the stick down, whereas in idle up 1 you need the same throttle curve position at the lower points in the stick movement to be able to descend the model down from flight in preparation to land. In this case you will need to maintain hovering throttle which depending on your engine/exhaust/fuel combination will be something in the order of 55 - 65%

      The two throttle curves you should have are assuming your hover point is 55% say and full power climb out is 100% (some are lower particularly with 50 size motors) and you are using a radio with 5 point curves, should look something like this;

      Normal:
      1=0
      2=25
      3=55
      4=75
      5=100

      Idle Up 1
      1=55
      2=55
      3=55
      4=75
      5=100

      In this case once you have brought the model up into the hover, switch to idle up 1 before you move off into flying circuits. When you are ready to bring the model down from flying your circuits in idle up 1, bring it down into a sustained hover, then drop out of idle up 1 into normal mode and land. Then when you bring the stick down the egine speed with drop nice and smoothly back to tick over.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Pete.

        If the engine is running lean and overheating would this cause it to race after the throttle is closed?
