  • Raptor 30 V1 what TX control ?

    Hi all.

I am very new to rc heli's and have just bought a secondhand Raptor 30 V1 which is fitted with a JR PCM NER-649S 9 channel receiver, 4 x JR537 servos and 1 x JR591 servo and a GWS piezo gyro but did not come with a tx controller. What one would you guys recommend to get me going, i dont want to spend too much just incase i dont get on with it ?

    Thanks

To stick with JR I would suggest as a minimum go for the X-2610

you basically have a choice of 4 transmitters that are worth having at your stage. There are others that are more expensive or less expensive but these are the best value. stear clear of sanwa and hitec radios.

as stuart suggested, the JR 2610.. Nice radio works well.

Futaba 7chp. extra channel ontop of th 2610, gives you control of the governor. User interface with the software is nicer too I think, easier to navigate. You can ausl buddy box with this transmitter where the 2610 will only slave. 7c also has 2 idle ups plus hold where 2610 only has one.

a big step up in price are 2 9 channel transmitters. The Futaba 9c and JR pcm 9x version 2.

These will do almost all you will ever need to do with any model including planes gliders and helis.

The mechanics of the pcm 9x are nicer than the 9c and the software is a little nicer to navigate. the 9c is a little inconsitent in method of navigtion and the top switchs are a little close together making it hard to get your fingers between them without switch them.

The upside of the 9c is that its much more flexible in switch asignment than the 9x.

      prices are approx...

      JR 2610 120
      Futaba FF7, 150

      9chp super 264

the 9x doesnt appear to be available seperately but comes with a synthesized module and R900 9 channel S class PCM receiver, 4x DS811 ball raced servo's, switch harness, transmitter and receiver nicads, charger and crystals, for a bit under 500ukp

      hope this helps.

Thanks all. Just one query. If the heli has got a 9 channel receiver, does that mean i need a 9 channel tx or will a 6, ie jr 2610 work ok and what would i gain from a 7 or 9 ?

I know you've (ade_law) has sort of explained it but i was lost at the beginning :?

        Thanks

ooops didnt spot the reciever you had in it. The 2610 will work with that reciever.

the advantage of the 9 channel transmitters is that they also have more flexible and easier to navigate software. There tends to be fewer abbreviations and more model memories and capability to do more complex models too.

A good example of this is the 2610 has no ability to control a governor. a 7c has enough channels to control a governor but the software only has limited use of it. the 9 channel tx's have dedicated screens that let you control the governor in almost any way you wish.

              yes thats the 2610.

one thing I didnt mention was that if you went for futaba you would have to change the reciever in the model to one that is futaba compatible.

                Thanks Ade.

If i go for the 2610, is there anything that the heli wont do that it would if i went for a 7 or 9 channel one ?

ps. does "no ability to control a governor" make a difference and (i am new to this) what is/does a governor do ?? ops:

yes, you only have one idle up, which can be a pain.

you can only use the 2610 as a slave when buddy boxing which is a real pain for people like me as i have to spend time setting the model up on one of my radios in order to buddy box you.

a governor is a thing that controls the headspeed. it takes over control of the throttle servo, measures engine speed and adjusts the throttle position to maintain the headspeed.

with the 2610 you cannot change the headspeed in the air or disable the governor. 2 things which are very useful.

For a beginner the 2610 will do the trick.....upgrading too a 9X or 9C Super later will be the next logical step. Though even with only 1 idle up you could attach a CSM revlock to a spare channel and achieve a remote headspeed governor.

What you need is the cheapest way off getting into the air and given the heli is all JR you'd might as well stick with it.

Get your BMFA insurance sorted before you get in the air and join your local club too. http://www.bmfa.org/

if your short on cash get the 2610,

if you got some extra get the pcm 9x. It will save you the cost of the 2610 in the long run.

                            Hi Ade.

I was actualy going to email you/your shop to see if you carry out repairs. Not repairs as such, setting up the contoller to the heli/servo trim etc and about some lessons !

I need a set of cristals first though or maybe you could help if i came down wimbourne ?

                            Thanks
