  • ESC on Belt CP

Has anyone else had this problem? Had my belt CP for about 3 weeks. Just practising tail in hover with reasonable success when suddenly there is an explosion and she drops to the ground in flames. Quickly put out the fire which was on the ESC.......... toasted! Fortunately the only other damage was a broken skid strut. That esc must have been faulty.

Yip i think you'll find there not the best ESC's and its a very common problem. You either get a good one or you dont with them ESC's. Even a good one though, well its not really good is it? Built as a cheaply as possible so you cant really expect anything else to be honest mate. Sad but true unfortunately. Just dont waste your money on another one, get an Align or Ace one instead or even a Flighttech Synergy. All reasonably cheap and will do the job 10 times better. I wouldnt bother putting anything more expensive then them in it though.

say no more! great advice. definatley dont replace with the same.

hovering and gentle flight seems to overheat them more that running them flat out! i think its due to the way they work. instead of reducing the voltage to slow the motor they pulse it, so in effect the slower and more gentle you are the harder they work and the hotter they will get!!( perhaps ashley or somebody more technical than me can explain it better??)

All the ones i mentioned above are 35 - 40 amp. They will run much cooler simple as that.
What Ron (Boggy) says is spot on and what you need to do is run the motor at 100% flatline throttle curve. It keeps motor/ESC and battery cooler. You do that by finding a motor pinion that will give you the headspeed you need at 100% flat throttle curve. This is probably why the Esky one has went up in smoke to be honest. Im guessing here but if it hasnt just died as it was faulty or crap quality then theres a high chance it probably overheated which resulted in killing it. Are you using the stock Esky TX?

            ESKY ESC problems

            Hi

I see various replaement ESC's suggested in this thread, and would like to add one more to the selection list.

I had the dreaded zero to flat out rotor spin up with my new belt-cp and the standard TX and ESC which ripped my main gear to bits in no time flat. I purchase the Sonix 30A with BEC, set it to startup "super soft and it is a real dream. It has transformed by flying of the Belt for sure...

Just a thought while you review the options.
