  • Esky Dauphin take off problem

First post here so I'll just say hello first

I've just bought an Esky Dauphin for a bit of fun in the garden. The problem I have is I just can't get it airborne... even on full throttle it just sort of skips across the floor.

I've read through the manual and can't see anything obvious. I bought a spare battery so tried that in case the first was faulty by still get the same.

Any ideas what I should look at next?

    The helicopter is brand new.

I'll be most grateful for any help!

I charged them both until the green light stayed on - which the manual said was fully charged.

I know nothing about that heli, but I'll ask the obvious question...
Did you charge the batteries first?

Yes, followed the manual as far as that and charged them both for an hour or so until the charger said they were done.

hi bongo welcome to the forum
i take it this is just a little 4 channel co'axial helicopter. check every thing is turning freely and there is no binding around the gears at the bottom of the shafts. try spraying some furniture polish around the gears and shafts ( dont get it all over the motors though!) this will help loosen it up! it may well take a few batteries before it is loose enough to fly, it does happen!
but if you still have no luck dont try dismantling anything take it back to your lhs first and ask them to check it over.
if you have spare blades you could just try them also

how long did it take to charge the batteries ???dont be suprised if its over an hour. the stock chargers are not the best and some times new batteries need a "jump" start to get them charging properly something else your lhs can help with

Yes, small 4 channel co ax, a lama with a different body I think.

The rotors seem to turn fine, the bottom rotor is a little 'clunkier' than the top one and takes a little more effort to move compared to the top being effortless.

With the throttle trim set to the bottom (as stated in the manual) you need to get the throttle very near to half way before it starts spinning - there's a high pitched squeak can be heard then one more "notch" of throttle starts the bottom rotor spinning - a few more start the top ones.

The batteries were on charge for a while, I was doing some work and just keeping an eye on them so don't really know how long, would say the second was an hour+ though.

sounds like you have an esc problem the blades should be turning way before that. ( almost as soon as you move the stick maybe two clicks if you can feel the ratchet) bottom first then top is correct.
i would return it mate and ask them to fly it for you whilst you watch if they say its ok!!!

I actually bought it online - I couldn't find a stockist nearby (and haven't had time to venture very far this week).

I will give them a ring on Monday and see what they say... hopefully it won't be too much hassle!

Do you have the throttle set to the minimum when you connect the receiver battery?

Yes, throttle and trim both at the very bottom - made sure of that as I didn't fancy getting in the way of spinning rotors!

I may be reading it wrong, but the Throttle trim needs to be central on the dial, then trim once you've got used and gain some experience.

Either way centering the Throttle Trim will be fine for normal flight even if it is a little way out.

But if the T/Trim is at the bottom most point, this might be your problem mate.

On my Dauphin you can put the throttle trim all the way to the top and it does not actually start the motors turning - so you can initialise the heli with the trim to the top and I think you get more throttle out of it that way. Try it?
