  • Grrr, Had a servo failure

Hi all, you may or may not remember a few weeks ago my Blade 400 had an argument with terra firma whilst I was doing Piros.
I repaired everything and replaced the Stock(aileron, stripped) eflight servo with a Spektrum DSP75, well that servo has been working for the last 3 weeks with no problem what so ever.
Well the last few days or so I have been getting quite adventurous and throwing the Blade around a lot, so maybe stressed out the servo's a bit.

On my 4th 2200mah battery tonight (been doing 5 Lipos at least 3 times a week since I've replaced the servo) the Spektrum died, and I mean proper dead, dosent even respond when you flick the servo with ya finger when its under load.

I tried another spektrum in there and its fine. BUT I won't be flying it.

I have ordered a complete set of HITEC HS-65MG's to go in the blade. I don't mind repairing my Blade when I ****-up, but I refuse to let inferior parts do my work for me.

    Asfalloth.

the spektrum servos are not intended for heli use EXCEPT as a atil servo where they are pretty darn good tbh. If you use the spekky programmer they are really quick!! Hs 65 mgs are the weapon of choice for 450 size cyclics, near as damnit indestructable and use the spekkys on yer tail, you will have 2 spare as well!!

mmm..., ok i'll try one on the tail, be a shame to confine them to a box never to be seen again.
Any idea where I can pick up a programmer for them?
And is there a settings reference I need to find somewhere?

you can get the programmer from horizon hobby there are three settings iirc torque, centre point and speed, basically set it as fast as you can get it!!!!

            Update: another noob mistake.

Now this mistake has made me come up with a new policy no matter how competent I get at flying rc heli's I will ALWAYS put a training undercarriage back on to test repairs before flying.

I made a noob mistake, I knew the the spektrums dsp's always work reversed but reversed it in the dx6i instead of on the gyro itself, this only made the nose go right instead of left.

What actually was happening was the gryo fed in a correction, found it wasn't working(due to it pushing the servo the wrong way) and fed in full rudder to correct, the fastest piros I've ever witnessed.

Anyway, I corrected this mistake and all is well in the 20min break in the rain she flew amazingly well in the stiff breeze, having a digi servo on the tail is very nice.
