  • Suggestion for suitable outdoor electric helicopter please

Please could someone give a little advice. I have been flying a lama v4 for a while and thoroughly enjoy it. However, I long to fly outdoors in a VERY LIGHT wind but still maintaining electric power. I have looked at the Belt CP as a reasonably inexpensive first thought.

As there are a number of models with / without brushless motors, seperate gyro Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Be aware that the Blade 400 is a 'very' lively heli. Do you really mean to go over to CP helis? Or just want a little fun in the garden?

If you want a CP heli look towards spending a little more and finding a stable machine, I hear the T-Rex 450 is a good beginners CP heli.

If you just want a cheap very easy to fly heli then check the Carson Big CFG, that can handle light winds and because it's just a big coax should be easy enough to handle.

I have a Blade 400 and although I love it to bits wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. It's my first CP heli and I've not managed to fly it yet. And the Twister Storm is likely very similar, it uses many of the same parts.

I started with the HBK2, was ok for extremely calm days untill i learnt to hover tail in, then i went for a Trex500.

If i had to start again id get the Trex from the start, its much bigger and handles 20mph wind ok, it can also be set up very dosile for beginners on a decent tx, and has a lot of power and speed for 3D flights

All depends on budget, i was on a very tight budget, but this hobby has cost me over £1k now since last november :O

Thanks, No existing radio gear. I only want to fly in very light winds and NO aerobatics, just reasonable battery life. Budget is likely to be limited to under £450 - main worry is cost of spares as crashes seem a way of life. Not looking to get too serious just have fun in the fields we keep horses in. (when they are not there)

A blade 400 would be my recommendation. Comes complete with a 6 channel 2.4Ghz transmitter to boot and is around the £250 mark all in.

couldnt agree more as adrian says blade 400.
as john says above it can be twitchy but it can also be tamed down to a very stable learners heli!

I know many here won't agree, but I've had enormous fun learning with my belt CP for just £120. Whatever you learn with you will be crashing alot and the money you save on initial purchase buys an awful lot of spares.

I do agree there are issues with 35mHz on the belt CP (radio glitches have probably caused a couple of minor crashes) and the quality of parts is not always to the highest standard, but what do you expect for such a small price-tag? It's certainly good for learning to hover with and doing circuits, which is all you're going to do for quite some time if you're anything like me, and parts are cheap and easy to get hold of. Having the best, most expensive heli won't give you any more fun at the end of the day, and ultimately that is what this hobby is all about

Having said that, and (hopefully!) got most of the silly learner's crashes out of the way I'm now looking to upgrade to the Trex 450SE V2 on 2.4gHz. But then again I'm totally hooked

                        Hi John,

I don't know if I might be of help but I'm based in Romford and I fly and crash the Blade 400/Raptor 30 & RealFlightG4.

I also belong to a model flying club, I'm just thinking I could help you fly/setup your Blade at my house, and you might even want to come to the MFC with me sometime, I've been following your posts and know you haven't had much luck thus far.

                        Anyway just offering.

                        Best Regards

                        Asfalloth.
