In all my searches I've never seen a five bladed rota head for the 450, there are three bladed rota heads, that cost around £100.00.

But as said in previous threads, this is more for the scale body flyer's.

This is the place to buy one from:

            http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/inde..._25_114&page=2

I have one which i am in the process of testing. Its far better than the lightning one which is also the same price.

Be aware, that its not a straight forward thing to plonk on the top and expect it to work. You will need to do a lot of reading and understand the mechanics and physics behind how mulitblade heads work.

Took under a week for mine to arrive from this chap, and good after sales service.

I am on the learning curve but have ammased quite a bit of knowledge on how to go about setting them up correctly, so if you require any assistance, i am more than happy to share what i have found out already!!

This how mine is looking so far:

                Thanks Aidi

For £60 notes I'd quite fancy one on my second build 450, the rota noise must be out of this world.

What do you need to set up ?

I've been reasonably succesful with a GAUI EP100 3 blade, and all that I did was to line up the upper swash-plate lock (following their instructions), and using a fairly basic technqiue to do the blade tracking.

                  What have I missed out..?

For starters on this particular head, the links and balls are not the best in the world. I have since replaced mine with Links and ball connectors from a Trex 600. The balls on the swash will soon be replaced as well.

The main thing is understanding and implementing the correct phasing on the 5 blade head. The swash has an arm on it called a follower with will allow you alter the phasing of the blades. On a 5 blade head the phasing is at 90 degrees. ie, the blade will actually do what you are telling it do 90 degrees after the control input. Took me a while to understand it, but after lots of reading i figured it out. Un less you get the phasing at exactly 90 then you'll get problems. The 90 is is achieved by movement of the follower. A very small movement on the follower can have quite a detremental effect on what the head actually does, so its vitally important that you get this correct.

Lots will also say that its impossible to fly without electronic stablization (Helicommand, Skokum 360, HeliTronix Helimiixer) however this is not strictly true. it is possible to fly without it, but its not easy. That said, the above listed electronics can have quite an effect when moving onto forward flight, so dont rule them out altogether.

Blades are another issue. Balance, CofG and Tracking become much more important. Buying 3 sets of blades which are all balanced is not going to be easy! so be prepared to sit down and do all the balancing. As for tracking, with two blades which are out of track, its pretty easy. make a change and if it gets worse then wind it back in and you will have it sorted. However, with 5 blades, its going to be a lengthy process! The CNC head is set on mine with each link at 52mm, which overall gives it pretty good tracking. A few fine adjustments should bring all the blades into track.

I hope these few snippets of info will help. I am no expert, but have read loads on it recently, and hopefully answered a few of the questions which will niggle you should you decided to give it a go.

                        Hey mate!

Good to hear from you. Once i have it all sorted out we'll get together and give it a fly about... thats if i havent stacked it whilst testing!

It is a handful, but once you get used to it, its not all that bad!! Famous last words!!

Ill put some pics up soon on how things are progressing.. There are couple on my gallery if you want to go take a look!

                        Cheers

The main difference between 3 and 5 blades is the offset of the swash. Where as a 3 blade only needs 45 degrees rotation of the swash, the 5 requires 90 degrees. Things start to get busy with all the linkages, and its easy for the follower to get obstructed by one the linkages. Also with the angle of the links, there is a fair bit of force acting on them so they need to be beefed up a bit along with the balls to ensure they dont pop off!! Blade balance and CofG is also critical to ensure no vibrations.

Personally i would recommend against the Lightning multiblade heads. There are a lot of threads on the various forums commenting on the quality of them. Rusty shafts, bit of tape left inside the mechanics and links with no threads on them.
