  • Does my JR XP662 Tx support sims...?

    Hi all
I'm moving over from Ikarus Piccolo to a Raptor V2 30 - have kept my old JR XP 662 Tx and have decided it might be best to brush up my skills on a flight sim. Question is - does the XP 662 support a simulator (there is a "trainer" plug on the back for wiring two Tx's together but no other reference in the entensive manual). If not, I'll have to get a sim that comes with a dummy Tx like XTR or G2 (XTR is the preferred one of those).
    cheers

    Hi Stu,

The 662 will work fine with simulators, the cable from the computer plugs into the trainer socket on the back of the transmitter. When you hook it up to a simulator, make sure the transmitter is in PPM mode, and preferably use a different model memory for the simulator settings.

    Cheers,
    Pete.

      Hi Pete
      thanks for the confirmation.
next question - which Simulator???!! I don't want to spend loads of cash - and might have a punt on E Bay for a second-hand version. Also - not sure if my PC would cope with a really top-quality program and am not that fussed if the graphics were so good as to be able to see individual leaves on trees, etc!. Which version do people prefer and why? G2 (think G3 is a bit expensive and may not run smoothly on my PC) or XTR? Or any others??
      cheers

I bought myself a copy of XTR at this years Sandown and am very pleased with it. I also have Aerofly Pro and Tru-Flite to compare against. XTR is very realistic in both visuals and "feel". It is certainly the closed simulator to the real thing that I have tried.

certianly worth a look, can be had for about 115 if not less now.

          Hi Stuart,

I bought the new Phoenix Rc sim.
I really like it, it will also run fine on older/slower computers.

Apparently the best simulator on the market and also the cheapest, around 70 pounds.

With my XP662 it works great.

          Hope this helps....
          Robin.

Can anyone confirm this - that Pheonix runs ok on older/slower computers?

If so, what are the minimum hardware requirements to make it run well - i.e. not just what it says on the box, but your experiences of the real world?

Although I use a Mac, I have a work PC laptop which is a few years old now, but still basically ok. I've not bothered with a sim, as I once installed my mate's XTR onto my laptop, and it was just a load of pants - the computer I mean.

But, if Pheonix is ok...... I could be tempted to make a purchase.
