  • Anti-Static Tail Boom Ground Strap

I think I have static issues (tail belt acts like a Van der Graaf generator), and to address them I'd like to ground the tail boom, motor, frame and Rx ground.

Most of this seems straight-forward, but I'm wondering about the best way to attach a conductor to the tail boom.

hi scally i resolved my static issues by applying grapit grease to the drive gears there are other methods im sure but this worked for me

Not sure what the heli is but the priciple is the same I guess. I used copper tape on my 500. RS Components, Maplin or CPC should do it but you can also get it from garden centres (it's to stop slugs climbing up plant pots and eating plants).
I route a strip from the rear bearing to the boom inside the gearbox case and at the front end, from the boom to the frames (carbon fibre). I also took a strip from the front pulley bearing to the frames too effectively making both ends of the boom at the same potential. I'll post photos in a bit...

No picture of the rear gearbox as it is on the inside of the case and connects via a rubbed down part of the boom.

          Yes.

It's a GAUI EP100 SE Pro. So it's pretty small. 33cm rotor diameter. ie same size as a BCX2, but fully CP, 3D-capable, etc.

I think I'm getting a static discharge from the tail boom, either through the Spektrum Rx antenna, or through a servo lead, through the Rx to the CF body. The Rx has a fit. Either shuts down the motor and comes back to life, or seems to continually reset for several seconds. At the end of this, the Rx LED flashes, but the remote receiver LED is solid on.

What I'm thinking is to attach a conductor to the front of the tail boom, to a washer under a motor mounting bolt (also conecting to frame), and also to Rx -ve power connection.

There may be some discharge between the plastic tail rotor assembly and the boom, but I'm not sure that will have an effect.

I hope that making the connection above will mean the charge leaks, rather than flowing as a static discharge.
