  • Twister CP v2 - tighten rotors?

    Hi folks,

I'm the proud owner of a Twister CP v2 - the batteries are charging.

I've had a couple of smaller helos in the past, but they were so limiting as to be frustrating, so I'm hoping to have more fun with this.

I couldn't see anything about battery charging time in the manual, despite lots of warnings from the salesman about overcharging, and similar text in the manual, but then realised the charger is timed (or controlled in some other way).

I also couldn't spot how I was supposed to string the receiver aerial around the helicopter frame (there are contradictory instructions about taping and not taping) but managed to figure that out by stringing it across the boom to the tail rotor and back, and secured with a cable tie. As far as I can tell there's no free cable to get chomped by the rotors.

Anyway, my question is about the rotor blades. They are folded for storage, but do I need to tighten the grub screw to fix them before flying? There's no mention of this in the manual.

    Thanks

Nice one mate I hope she gives you some good flying fun, hoping the horse hasn't already bolted and your dealer has already recommended some, but put some good training legs on her, and if poss' get some sim time in if you can mate.

      Thanks for the reply.

Someone had recommended training skids, but unfortunately the shop I bought from didn't have any. Any recommendations for a place to buy from?

The controller has a simulator cable connection, but no cable, and no software. Is it possible to get these?

OK, I get all my gear From Elite Models, but where you purchase training gear is up to you but don't take off without it.

This is where the beginner hears things he doesn't want to, but there's no point beating round the bush.

1, have you ever taken flight of a helicopter like this before.

2, Clearly you haven't any sim practice, the sim your controller is geared up for is FMS which is a freebie, all I can say it's better than nothing but not much help in the real flying world.

3, Phoenix which 99% of us use costs all much as your heli, and I guess your possibly on a budget which is fine but I fear whats heading your way only too soon.

You see light weight little helis like this are very twitchy which means slight nudges of the stick will make her go from left to right, forward to reverse far faster then you'll be able to compensate for, never mind simply tail in hover balance and the time needed to learn and practice before you take the real thing out.

If all the questions I asked was answered with a no I'm sorry to say the cost of your heli is going to be the tip of the ice Burg with the damage that's coming your way, these are difficult machines to master and fly even with the better machined expensive gear, and the only way your going to find out what I've been writing here will be a few seconds or minutes after your first flight.

I'm not writing any more right now until you say if you'd like my honest opinion or not.

PS, what helis did you fly before?

          1. Nope, not this complexity. The idea was to go for an upgrade though because the previous helicopters were so poor as to be unflyable. I'm not sure of the names of the previous helicopters, but suffice to say a lot cheaper and with no forward or backward control (2/3 channel?).

          2. So worth bothering with at all?

I guess I'll have to take it very gently to start with! Although mostly I'm going for a bit of fun trying to learn the controls.

Presumably a helicopter this light is going to be a nightmare in the slightest wind?

Sorry folks, only just got the email update about this, although it looks like it's all sorted.

I've not had much luck with the CP. I did about 20 minutes of practise flights and the thing just died. Turned out to be the so called 4-in-1 control unit had failed. I took it back to the shop and they replaced it under the guarantee.

I then flew it a bit more, for another 20 or so minuites, and it suffered some minor damage - a broken skid and the rather stupidly designed "tail spike" (that protects the tail rotor) broke off as well. But to add insult to injury the controller seems to have failed again.

I'm now not sure whether the shop will repair under guarantee due to the damage, but I was expecting something a bit more solid and flyable for the money.

How much do these CP's cost?

Even with a little damage, I would explain to the shop the order of events as they occured, and they would have to either repair or replace it.

If it was me I would insist on a full refund (perhaps with a re-stocking fee to take into account the damage repair cost they will have).

You would be better served with a Blade 400 which is lovely in the wind, and with which you can adjust in the 2.4G Spektrum DX6i controller the pitch and throttle curves to give a very calm beginners first hover heli, and then can use for 3d much much later when you've improved your skills.

Wishing you luck with your LHS.
