  • Walkera DragonFly 4CH Helicopter NEW VERSION 2 - IMPROVED

    hi

i am new to this forum and new to rc electric helicopters i just wanted to know if any of you have got this model and what you think of it

how long does the battery take to charge and how long is the flight time on each charge

can you buy a better battery for it so it will last longer in the air and where to buy them

    thanks

Don't know the model, but if the battery is a nicad or NiMh, then look at the mA capacity. The standard chargers supplied usually supply a current about a 10th of the battery's capacity. EG a 700mA pack will have a charger rated at 70mA. To get an idea of charging time, take the battery's capacity and add 20% then divide by the charge rate. In general, this rounds out to about 14 hours. however, there are fast chargers available allowing you to charge up to the max capacity of the pack dropping the charge time down to an hour. A word of caution though. Repeated charging at this rate will shorten the life of the battery.

Flight times depend on the condition of the pack, the model's setup and the manner in which it's been flown. In general, you would get anything from 7 - 10 mins with a nicad or NiMH battery.

If you want longer flight times, then look at Lithium-ion or lithium-poly batteries. These are more expensive and require special chargers and careful handling when being charged. Unfortunately, I'm not too clued up on these batteries and suggest you consult your LHS for more info.

    Hope this helps.

i am new to this forum as well, but i am using a walkera dragonfly 4 ch, and have replaced the NiMh hydride batteries with 3 cell li po's. its a higher voltage and my motor went eventually but i got 6 months flying out of it before that happened. i think it originally took 7 cells or 8.4 v Nimh's, and we put 3 cells of li po's at 11.1v . You will have to check though because i am talking about the version 1 not the version two that you have although 2 may be base on vers 1.
