Hi All,
Have been looking around for a starter heli since buying a "mosquito" 3 channel for £20 & having a ball with it.
The CX2 seemed to be the recommendation, so i got one online.
First thing i noticed was how big it is (compared to the trusty mosquito), and it seemed a lot more serious. We've only got a small house, and after a couple of flights without incident, i clipped the sofa & chipped an upper & lower blade.
Got lots of replacements today, and put everything back together to notice that it was now "wobbly" & seemed out of balance. I stripped the whole heli, thinking i'd damaged one of the shafts. I wasn't able to undo the screwed washer thing, and managed to put my small screwdriver into & under the nail of my left middle finger....not recommended & is still throbbing.
Put everything back together, and tried a flight in the conservatory. Pinged another blade on the sofa, so replaced that & because it was calm, took it into the back garden.
Things now made much more sense, and i was able to fly around for a whole battery's worth
As it was flying, i noticed that the lower blades weren't in line.
Fitted my new spare battery & swapped the lower blades for two fresh ones.
Back up again in the garden, and had a great time!
In conclusion, i still have a long way to go, but i've learned that the CX2 needs space, especially with a novice at the controls, and also that in fairly calm conditions, you can learn to correct for the very slight breeze & as long as you stay low (2 to 3 feet), things aren't too bad.
Any suggestions as to how to balance the blades? Read something about warm / hot water. Is this a good / safe way to proceed?
One last thing, don't overlook the Mosquito.....cracking little thing, although the guy in Hobby Stores at Chelmsford thought i was taking the mick
