  • What to move onto after a CX2

Well I got the CX2 and have had a lot of fun and a outdoor flights when the weather allows: Great heli but obviously it has limits to what I can learn with it.

I'm getting phoenix at the weekend but want to know what heli you guys think I should get next:

I want a elec heli as I cant commit to a club right now but I have a good place to fly where I wont hurt anyone.

My local model shop were really raving about the Hirobo SRB Quark and it looks really nice but I kind of had the thought that it does not look like I get much for my money - I was thinking when spended that sort of money up I would have a slightly bigger heli to fly..

Budget - well you cant get anything decent(ish) for under £250 but I will spend more but I need to budget for repairs too :-)
I will consider 2nd hand so even if a new model is over my budget I may be able to get a decent second hand one from LMS

    Cheers

i think that there is only really one that (almost) fits your budget and flies well out of the box.

I have the Hirobo SRB Quark and you need to fly to believe it great for indoors and outdoors in light winds.
I cant put mine down i even have spare batteries.
Weather often stops me flying my other heli's but not my Quark i can fly it at work, indoors, shed and many other places its that steady i can hover it into my hand or you can make it do all dancing stunts.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I have read (so not my opinion) that the blade is very fragile when crashed and your better off spending more money on a Trex 450 but what model and fitting it with what goodies I cant say. I know all heli's are fragile when crashed but some more than others it appears.

        Any views?

Is it easier to fly than other heli's you have and is it suitable for a next steep beginner like me

Just go for it on the trex. I am so glad I skipped the others. Couple of months of Phoenix time, over a week of evenings just spent checking out the setup and balance.

Such a wonderful moment when you take it out for the first time and realise both, it flies! and I can fly it!

Judging by the posts for help, damage on the trex 450 seems to be reasonably minimal each time, when the worst happens.

Indeed I agree, however if he buys the blade 400 and upgrades the servos to 65MG's he'll have a bullet proof machine without spending massive amounts.

Plus the Blade fly's very nicely straight out the box as I've seen one fly, and there value for money is superb.

Plus there's no reason to think if he takes it easy he's going to blow out the servos, it's the best RTF package on the market, backed up with the best value Tx going right now.

Just practice on Phoenix first before you attempt your maiden flight.

I've been recommended a Twister 3D Storm as the next step after the cx2. How does it compare to the Blade 400 in terms of quality? One of the American forums was very critical of the Blade. Lots of advice to go for a Trex. I can get the Twister and a DX6i/6100E from Inwood models but they haven't answered my Email about what exactly is in their Twister 3D package and which Training undercarraige to get. Are they ok on the phone? Lots of negative comments about them.
I'm quite keen to get a better quality heli after I've learned to fly a single rotor one and Trex sounds a quality product. The Blade 400 seems to be set up for 3D rather than beginner level, but that should be easy to reprogram.

Look mate, the Blade 400 will only do what you ask it to do, you control it not the other way round bud, so relax a little, I've just realised the Twister Strom comes in a complete RTF outfit, under the bonnet she's practically the same like for like as the Blade 400 machine, in fact I'd go so far and say they are the same TBH.

My personal taste I think the Twister Storm is a sexier looking machine than the B400, a little more blink, nicer canopy, killer looks with the red Boom, skids etc, plus I regularly fly with a chap who has one, and he's very pleased with it.

But before any of this you need to practice, use the link from the supplier I use.

I deal with Elite Models and speak to Rob as he's well clued up and will give you excellent advise and service

                  http://www.elitemodelsonline.co.uk/Specials+Area/New+Items/item2642/

It seems to come with everything, apart from the TX & RX, for £130ish, OK buy the DX6i which also comes with a receiver and your away, plus I'm sure but I can't say for sure, for a small handling fee there'd connect your Rx and do a basic set up so she's flyable for a complete beginner, as I say E,M are a class outfit, and you'll receive superb advise, and excellent back up there after.

But as a Contra pilot only at this point you aren't equipped with the knowledge to fly her yet, but like me I'm sure your well touchie feelie, and while you cram in Phoenix, your be holding her and admiring her good looks, but also read up on the manual too, and your learn what and where all the parts are, and it'll help you understand her workings, before you take to the skies.

Best of luck mate, do let us know how you get on.

I dunno mate, the 400 is nice really, I like the colour scheme anyway. Also there's a guy on YouTube reviewed it, and he should know what he's chatting about as he worked on Blue Thunder, he reckons that unlike many helis it's actually built around it's electrics, rather than just a frame then the electrics put in where you can fit them... If that makes sense.

I reckon the Storm will cost you most of that anyhow, and with my luck with Twister gear I wouldn't recommend it I'm afraid.

Just my 2p worth. Now then, where's me Tardis so I can go forward to Fast-Lad getting some stock of B400's in...

Please don't get me wrong mate, I'd still buy the 400 regardless, as she's had more people review her and fly her here, and pound for pound she's unbeatable for cost.

I've had a leaning to her all along, but thought I'd better sound out some others first. I think for VFM she's a hard lady to beat. Take away the tranny and rx you're looking at around 160 for a fully 3d capable heli. As I've said, I don't mind a 2nd TX, even if it's the same as I've got. From looks though it seems more due into UK around late June. Hope so, I'd like it for my hols at the end of June really. Plus I know Ron (Boggy) put up a good tranny set up for her, and some advice to get her flying nice for beginners like us. So card must come out soon in time to pre-order.

tbh guys these debates wil rage on and on! which everway you look at it its down to personal cost and choice.
the blade and twister are basicly the same heli. only the frames and servo's are different. (possibly motor and esc ) im not sure.

the blades servos are digital and dont seem to suffer burnouts as often as the storm anolouge ones, neither fare well in crashes!

as for the trex its a good heli.... but only as good as the gear in it and i defie anybody to get a simlar speced one in the air for the cost of a blade or storm. rtf with dx6i!!

oh go and buy a 30 or 50 size machine and have done with it

You'll get one later at some point so why spend twice ?
