Weather no good for setting up my new TREX 450SE and still have to work out all the settings on the complicated electronics, so thought I would try some indoor hovering practice with my rebuilt CP2.
After moving the car out of the garage I have a clear space about 8X10 feet so my practice area consists of a thin sheet of plywood 4 feet square. The task is to take off from the plywood, hover tail in no more than two feet off the ground, keep above the plywood and land in the centre. My Futaba FM transmitter is in Spain so I decided to use the Esky one. Disaster! After initial smooth take off a sudden lurch to the right trashed a new set of blades. Fortunately these were only £12 for 5 pairs posted from Hong Kong so another pair were dynamically balanced and refitted. With more care this time I avoided blade damage when the same thing happened. I then noticed that the aileron servos were twitching occasionally for no apparent reason.
I thought that the new brushless motor conversion might be causing interference, but then I traced the problem to a bad contact on the aileron trim potentiometer. After moving this slightly off centre all is well and practice continued until I ran out of batteries. Now penning this while I look out at the rain and wait for them to recharge!
