  • Thinking about next heli already!

So I've built, hovvered and crashed my Thunder Tiger Mini Titan E325 (nearly re-built in time for the weekend ), and now there's a big empty space in the garage where my motorbike was and a healthier bank balance my thoughts have turned to "what shall I buy and build next???".

I'm going to buy and build slow time i.e. get the basic kit soon, buy a motor next month, radio/servo's month after etc etc. I wan it to be a nitro, question is: do I get a Raptor 30 cos I like them and they are relativly cheap, then get a T-rex 600n next year once I'm competant on the raptor (& I'm quite keen to have several heli's!!) or miss out the 30 stage and go straight for a 50?

When I started biking (20 yrs ago.. eek) I started on a 50, then got a 100, then a 350, then a 600, then a etc etc but these days people seem to pass their test then get straight on a 750! Whats the thought on the r/c heli world?

Personaly I would go straight for a 50.
If your getting on ok with the mini Titan a Compass 50 sport or sceadu 50 or 600n etc would fit the bill just fine & be as easy if not easier than what your flying now.

      Howdie,

The Raptor, Trex 600 or the Knight will do you proud.. whichever you decide to go for. If you are planning on going down the full 3d route, then the second two would be the obvious choice. If you are just looking at sport flying, then the Raptor is ideal.. and it can do 3d with a few upgrades. Whichever you choose, you will notice how much more stable it is when flying compared to the Mini Titan.

Make sure you check out the cost and availablility of spares for each, and remember, they will only fly as good as the electronics you put inside it!!

These are just a few of the hints and tips which i have picked up in the short time that i have really been into the hobby, but i am sure others will give other advice. Oh, one last thing, buying a kit is always a good idea too. You get to learn as you build it how things work and interact with each other which can make repairs or upgrades easier in the future!

Ive seen now a fair few people skip the 30 rout and go straight for the 50 their good reliable machines that can be setup for full 3d or tuned down to make a nice stable platform for someone new to the sport.

Then as you get used to it it can be set for a higher performance.
        All the best
        Tony.

Skip the 30 - you will outgrow it - go straight to a 50. Other than the servo strengths (debatable) and engine size, there isnt much else in it.

As previously noted, if you are getting on well with the mini-titan, then you should be more than OK with a 50, in fact you might actualy find it easier.

Thanks for your comments and observations guys - I kind of guessed that would be the general concensus. Perhaps I'll get a Raptor 30 in a few years as a "classic heli", just cos they look nice!

The Raptor 50 is the same size as the 30 only with driven tail , bigger blades and a bigger engine.

I love flying mine so don't discount the Raptor if you like the look of them.

Must admit I like the look of the Rappy canopy over the Knight and the Trex but I say this in hushed tones

              Cheers

I'm a big fan of the raptor, I have a rappy titan 50 kasama head metal pitch tray soon to have kasama tail gearbox, and I absolutely love it, very good in flight extremely stable excellent for sports flying,. my 3d experience is a little limited so far but it certainly performs excellently.

Raptors have also been what an awful lot of todays top flyers cut their teeth on, they may be old technology but I like em.

Raptors are great. I had one and found my 600 Pro's a real handful in comparison. Cant beat a Raptor for learning on. They almost fly themselves! Love my 600n's now though. Agile as a cat and can be tamed down to be nice and stable for learning. Look great too.
