A nutter that enjoys stuff like that, plus a good bottle of wine is my kind of nutter.

Just watched your video mate, fantastic, the thermals were well in your favor, and to see your shadow on the clouds beneath you wow! What was it like to gently glide like a bird and being at cloud height, that must have been the most fantastic experience possible, without any engine power.

I'm well impressed Mike, I'd love to do something like that myself, but personal issues wouldn't allow it, but do say how you felt, and after the landing you must have been buzzing for days after.

What was your highest ceiling point, I'm guessing at about 1500-2000ft, man, I'm so impressed as I can understand the drive to do something like that, I get the same from Photography and mostly from my Heli flying, but for real, shit, it just doesn't get any better than that.

Very well done Mike, blinding effort all round, filming, sound, everything!

Now where's that bottle of wine? Ahh there it is!

      Nice one Mike,
I see that was 2005 do you still fly H/G's?
I fly HG's here in the south most weekends (weather permitting)
Great to see you are getting back into heli flying. The hard part is just a question of wether you fly the heli or the hang glider!!
Either way a nice bottle of wine is great for the post flight debrief.

        MORE Questions Im affraid

        Hi Gang,

Thanks for the comments on the film, yes I do still fly (and 60 this Sunday), I started Hang Gliding in 1972!, there's a whole book of stuff I could tell you about how things have gone on but that's not what this forum is about I think, I've posted a pic of the glider I fly now so if your interested there it is (and she's a dream).

Back to Phoenix, I downloaded the demo, it looks is as good as you say, does anyone know if the Shuttle ZX is available on Phoenix?

Regarding my gear, well I know for it's day it used to fly really quite well, by todays standards I dont know as I've not seen any RC Helis around for a long time but if I were to consider upgrading then possibly it might be just as well to keep the Shuttle as a sentimental museum piece (flying) and get a new wizzy ship from todays market place? No matter how good the electronics were I could still crash it!

If I were to upgrade the electronics I'm thinking there may not be a whole world of difference at the end of the day in cost to getting a new Helicopter of some sort (and I would have two Helis just in case there was a prob with one)

        The TX is FP-T5NH
        RX FP R128DF
        Servos FP-S148
        (all Futuba)

There's no ID on the GYRO but it's the original so I presum it's also Futuba

        Any advice would be apreciated.

Nice vid ... As for changing the electronics .... Personally I would get some 3152 servos all round ...Ya will find the heli will respond more than with the 148's on it and also centre themselve better ... Inwoods are doing em for bout £15 each i think .. As for a gyro ... futaba 401 . Most would say use a 9254 tail servo ... BUT i use hitec 6965's on all my tail servos and they work very very well ...That way ya get to keep your heli to start with and upgrade for the minimal amount of money without buying a new heli ... Mind you new helis ya can get pretty cheap now to learn with theres a few options like Raptor 30/50 or a 600n or a knight sport to name but a few ...

              Dilema? Hmmm!

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I'm now in the position of to get REFLEX I need a new TX as my old ones don't have computor outlets (futaba Challanger FP T5NH).

If I get a new TX it would be good to get a new rx & Gyro and servos for my old Shuttle!

I can't believe what these new gyros are all about (HH etc) and NO MOVING PARTS, how the hell do they do that?!?

Right now I've just come in from praticing with the Shuttle, two tanks of fuel, light wind, sunny day, no crashes. Maybe the thing to do is take it gently and see where it leads me, maybe a pile of twisted bits, maybe a flying museum piece, maybe a new set of kit? Then the question of if I go for a new Helicopter should it be Nitro, Electric, big, small, indoor, outdoor, see, life is full of questions

              Regards,

              Mike.

I remember when Hang Gliding was considered dangerous and sex was safe,

              NOTHING STAYS THE SAME!
