  • Gust of wind a good bye V4.

It says it in the title really last week I took my V4 out for a spin it was calm and everything was going well I will admit I was flying after a couple of pints not at the same time

Mother nature grabbed victor the V4 and went for a spin to my expense bounced of the drive of my neighbours and rearranged its self. Fair to say Victor was not in a good state.

All is well until the next crusade got some spares and a replacement battery for that one that flew into the hedge and the spares extremely cheap from

Vicor will be patched up soon fingers crossed for no more freak gusts!Q

For heavens sake keep her indoors from now on mate, Contras really are just for house or large open indoor areas only.

It comes back to my candle in the garden analogy, if you place a candle on a table outside light it and the flame is still alight one minute later then it's a safe bet you can fly her outside.

Remember even a draft in your house can cause a Contra to wobble, I know it's tempting but fly indoors only.

There are various mods you can buy to make her outside flyable, but they all make a Contra that little bit less stable and moving the servo arm a few holes up the horn only leads to countless more blade strikes.

      Candles and stuff

Yep, I flew my V-3 on a day I thought was OK and got blown-away, luckily into tall grass, no damage. Also remebered to shut the throttle pronto so I didn't cook anything. But I was wondering... If I got a longer shaft to stop blade collisions and moved the servo links out on the horns do I have a fair chance of flying, not in gusty weather, but at least a light breeze?

I read about the 450XL, is that too advanced for a guy whose only flown contras for about a month? I must say that I've read great stuff about them. It's great being a newbie - so much to learn!

      Cheers, Hairy.

Or even total her or hurt yourself or someone else.

Your get hooked I can assure you, but for Christs sake keep that poor ole Victor indoors.

similar thing happend with mine... i went just above fence height and it just kept going up! and wouldn't come down

so i had lost controll... it went towards next door neibours roof, smashed on the cornor of it and then fell onto the roof of there garage...

GREAT! - they did let me climb up to get it though!

although amazingly not even a broken blade! just the fly bar flew off (lost it lol) however i was flying it without a tail section so there not much left to break!

Got to agree, i adjusted the servo links out one hole on my blade cx2, this made it able to actually fly against a light breeze, but getting blade strikes quite regularly now, soooo annoying. Ive just made a longer inner shaft, and a spacer to increase the distance between rotor hubs, and cut down the flybar length, in an attempt to reduce blade strikes. Hopefully this will let me fly a bit more outdoors.

Trouble is any mod or performance part that's added to a BCX2 will always be at the expense of stability.

And the blades don't come cheap with that bird, unless you do the E-sky conversion, or E-Flite's new CNC chrome looking alloy blade holders that allow the cheap as chips blades to be attached.

I really love my CX2 and specifically abusing it.

I take it out to the local wooded area near us and fly it with up to gentle breeze. The wind has taken it into tree's and all sorts of other things. Blade strikes are the number one PITA outside.

I've found extra weight to be the key when battling mild breezes outside. I slapped on the xtreme body bits which are heavier than the stock polycarbonate shell and that went well but the problem was battery life suffered as well as the overall power/lift. The CX2 manoeuvres better with power and headspeed. To counteract this I put a couple of the ball raced 180SEv2 motors in and switched to flightpower evo lite packs. Problem solved.

Its now more tolerant of slight gusts but still gets unsettled just not so much. Biggest difference is flying into a head wind. Before it would barely move forward even with full elevator but now it powers through in comparison.

Regardless of mods and what not, if you don't want to bash your toy up then avoid the outdoors but for comedy value and entertainment its hard to beat.

                      Booted?

Not at all. I just see the co-axials as fair game for outdoor fun when conditions are mild.

Come on live a little, its only money.

You see I had a few disasterious incounters with outdooor CX2 flying when I started, no damage just heart racing momnets.

And with a Trex to feed now I tend to fly carefully with my new CX2, careful by me sayng I still bomb her about, but break turn a lot sooner than I used to.

E-flite have brought out some rota attachment mods CNC alloy which enable E-sky blades to be attached

I'm the last one to talk, my little girl's been outside a good few times now, it's really a case of watching the heli and the trees at the same time. As soon as she moves against your input then it's a breeze, bring her down. It really does have to be dead calm though, she'll handle maybe a 1 or 2 knot wind but no more.

That said Carson have a bigger outdoor contra now, don't know if it's any good though.
