  • Gyro for sub-micro

I've killed (or it might have been suicide...) an NT400 http://www.rcmart.com.tw/product_01_1.aspx?id=98 that would have been going in a (2nd - it made sense at the time) GAUI EP100 SE Pro http://www.gaui.com.tw/en/100pro.htm .

Another NT400 will work ok, and cost about £40. However, I'm wondering if there are better options - especially as I seem to have killed at least one.

I'd like something quite light, robust, that will stay 'in tune', possibly with some parameters to tweak, but not a nightmare to set-up. (I've got an NT400 working fine in rate and HH mode.)

I'm keen on being able to set servo end-points, mid-point, etc.

Flying is fairly restrained at this point, but I wouldn't rule out a high-spec gyro if it will work well, and be interesting. ie 'overkill but interesting' might still be worth the money.

Constraints on tail servo might limit things.

Would a Logictech 2100T be an option? I think it's about the same size, maybe a few grams heavier. Been very happy with it on my 450; it copes with backwards and sideways flying with ease. Only downside is it is rather intolerant of vibration. It does work best with a digital tail servo, though I have used it successfully with analogue ones.

If you want to spend out - Spartan DS760.

I've got one on my Gaui 200EP and it works so well, the tail is very locked in. It's small, light and fits neatly under the main shaft on the bottom tray.

        Sounds good. 10g sounds ok.

        What's the vibration intolerance ?

What is it that you like about it ?

This was one of the ones I was thinking of as 'interesting overkill'.

I wonder if an EP100 will take 16g.

(And also if work will buy me a bluetooth PDA to set it up...)

i got a spartan on my 200... its the daddy simple as that :-)

i have a little bounce when stopping piros hard but now i have the bluetooth im gonna spend a couple of batteries playing with the settings other than that its spot on, no drift and the hold is excellent.

                I know.

It's what started me reading up on them.

The question is whether an EP100 will carry the weight,

its basically the same model, so dont think it would make that much difference. you could shorten the leads that would save a whole stack of weight. half the weight is probably in the wires!

In the presence of not-really-that-strong vibration, it will tend to drift, jitter and generally feel like its about to let go. On my Belt CP, I ended up using the CSM gyro mount to get it to behave.

Otherwise I find it very stable, it has independent left/ right end points, and the only slight niggle is the stop on one side is soft and bounces for some reason. You need to set up the servo neutral position for hover pitch for best performance; I find it tends to drift (again) otherwise.

I'm not sure you're helping, you know - I was trying to convince myself that the 2100T was the sensible choice...

You're not the only person to mention the weight of the wires.

I'm quite happy with a soldering iron & heat shrink (BuzzFly tail motors have improved my skills no end...), but how do you shorten gyro leads without butchering things ?

                          ok done a little digging,

best way to do this is to cut the plugs off, shorten the lead and put new plugs on,

                          Crimp tool: http://ashtekelectronics.com/shop/se...ol-p29855.html
                          New plugs: http://ashtekelectronics.com/shop/se...le-p29825.html

theres no connections under the heatshrink its just there to stop the cables parting further than they have,

obviously if you messed up and put the leads in the wrong holes and broke the gyro then it wouldnt be covered under the warrentee,

if you mess it up and the cable needs replacing, it would probably need a new case as the cables are glued in, this would also be chargeable.

the bad news is that the whole cable with connectors only weighs 9 grams and the connectors probably equal half of this weight so your probably only going to save 5 grams max.

so the only real advantage your going to gain is the space saving of the loop of cables...

I have also played with a buzzflyer gyro, its 40ukp and only 6 grams obviously the spartan performs better. but even on a heli the size of the ep100 im not sure you would notice 10grams in the air.

I tried to search and see what tail servo your 200 has, but failed.

                            What do you use ?

I'm using the S3153 - I think Ade is too?

I've had problems with bounce from piro stops too - hopefully some tweaking with the deaceleration will solve it.
