  • 1. First crash 2. Nose-in hovering 3. Raptor supplies

Had my first crash last night - having been able to hover quite comfortably for some time - and backwards, forwards etc. etc. in windy conditions too, I thought I'd try nose-in hovering / turning to try a figure 8 close to the ground. I nearly stoofed it last week with training gear on then completely lose it last night - a full on multiple roll over 7 or 8 times. Not too much damage, baldes, flybar, landing gear.

Anyone get any tips on nose-in hovering / flying? Just can't seem to get my mind to work "opposite"?

So, can anyone recommend an online supplier for Raptor parts? My local model shop seem expensive - £18 for skid set ? Does that seem reasonable?

Heya, For cheap parts for a raptor try midlands and fastlads .. most of us use em here and there next day delivery is brilliant from both shops ....as for learning nose in the way i was taught was to prop the disc of the rotor ... say it dips right ya correct with right stick movement ...same as left is left .. as for the forwards and backwards it's the same as normal with it ... or ya could try this site as he has some good tips on learning orientations ....http://www.raptortechnique.com/

Indeed, Phoenix, and when for real keep her low, as if you do have to land in a hurry she hasn't far to fall, well at least that's how I'm doing it mate.

I'd keep the heli fairly high mate. That way if you get into trouble you can spin the tail round and save it. That how I learnt recently. You will be amazed at how low you can start to go within a few flights. Just how I did it. Not the same for everybody.

dont think of it as opposite! look at the heli and imagine the disc is a spinning plate. when your nose in use the right stick to "prop up the plate" as it dips.

look on real raptors for parts the quick uk skids are about£12.99 and five times stronger than stock!

I find I am able to visualise myself stood behind the heli when nose in, and for some strange reason nose in hovering has always felt more natural?!?

I found side on more tricky that nose in and I'm still not much good at that now.

Oh, and another vote for Phoenix.

I can left nose side on all day if need be, right nose thats another matter, and nose in is still dangerous ground for me.

This is where Phoenix comes into it's own, strangly I can do the above on phoenix OK, I just haven't the bottle right now to do it for real.

Once you have got your head around the 'support the Rotor disc with the tx stick' principal, it can just click. Another possible method to try is to take off nose in. Not as scary as it sounds as you are doing the support the Rotor disc thing from the start. If you don't fancy that, do the same but only get the heli light on it's skids and get a feel for what it's doing. Good luck!
                            Cheers, Lee.

Sorry to hear about the crash.

The way I learnt nose in was the following:

Create a copy of your current setup in a spare model memory and the soften up the 'nose in' program.

Stick the training sticks back on.

Place it nose in and basically start like you are first starting.

I have heard many people say prop the wing that drops which I guess is alright when you are flying circuits and it's nose in but the way I found easiest was basically move the cyclic in the direction the model starts to move (but be gentle). Other than that all I did was practice, practice and practice.

Be carefull not to fry your brain too much as I found after a couple of tanks of nose in hovering I started to get brain fade and little mistakes started to happen. Having said that learning this way has never caused me a crash. Also plan your escape route so if it does start to get messy you have a get out. Mine was a bucket load of tail with some collective.

                              Hope this helps.
