  • applying "CA" - what is CA?

    Hi there,

I have just built my Raptor 30 V2, and the instructions mention applying something called CA, could someone please tell me what CA is?

    Thank you in advance,

        The correct name is Cyanoacrylate.

        PS
Cyanoacrylates are single component adhesives, which set up very rapidly. These products more commonly referred by many generic names such as super glue, krazy glue, CA's, or instant adhesives.
If it's not fun, your not doing it right !!

            CA or Thread Locker

A word of warning, sometimes in the manuals which are usauly a translation from japanese to english, when they refer to CA, they sometimes mean Thread lock (which is a CA but not as strong!!) if you apply CA (super glue) to bolts, nuts, screws etc you will have a great deal of difficulty getting them undone again (stripped heads, sheared bolts) etc as I found when I got my Shuttle, the person had used CA instead of thread locker.

If in doubt consult you local Model Shop, of if you are a member of a club, ask around.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

            And a DX8 too

Use on all metal-to-metal contact surfaces.

The manual itself isn't very clear.
Well done if you have not used the additional manual from www.raptortechnique.com

You may need to rebuild (involuntarily) if you haven't used any contact adhesives.

Yeah! the manual is not great at all! - definitely much worse than my RC Car manuals! - they were very good indeed.

I found myself staring at the manual for the Raptor for many many minutes, trying to work out how on earth the bits lined up with each other! - The Pitch level was the longest i think. - But I got around this by looking further ahead at the pictures in the next steps, which helped me no end!

I built most of it in an afternoon-evening - it's great fun building RC models and it's exciting too!

Thanks for the info about CA.

I used threadlock on all metal to metal threads, haven't bought any CA as yet. But I need it for the wooden blades - and i also need epoxy too - which I find annoying.

Could anyone recommend a good epoxy for the blades?

                Ta,

                Simon

aradite is good, but any epoxy should do..remember to cut away the covering where you are gluing the root plates on the blades

p.s. I have found that the covering on rappy woodies dont last too long before it splits and makes a rather unnerving noise as it shreds of the blades, my mate varnished them instead and they have held up fine .

sounds like a good plan - i might just have to do the same.

Or buy some glass blades instead at sandown on Sunday - I love that place! Yay!!!
