Comments on this spec please.

I was in Skyline Models yesterday and had a good chat with the guys their, checking out various bits and pieces before taking the plunge on my new TRex 600N. I asked for a breakdown of what I'm going to need to get started, as I have decided on the TRex 600 Nitro Super Pro Combo and Spektrum DX7 and was given this list:

TRex 600 N Super Pro Combo (engine, blades etc included)
Spektrum DX7 Full kit
CSM SL630 Heading Lock Gyro
DS 820G digital tail servo
Li-poly 1-3 cell charger

I will probably be going for the convenience of the Carrymaster Flight box, with all the bits needed for starting on the field.

What do you guys think on this spec, anything to add and particularly on the the servo's and gyro. I am a Novice so will only be flying the basics, but would like to buy reliable proven components.

I hope to get my order in fairly soon, but would like some feedback on the components.

Looks good for a package ... but ... I would pref dump the full Dx7 full setup and get some 3152's all round .. As for a gyro ya could always get the 401/9254 package which are cheap enough now as well ... Me i use a hitec 6965 for all my tail servos and never had n e issues with them ... Other than that looks ok

Defo ditch the spectrum servos there crap, if ur on a budget get futaba 3152s or 9252/9255's if ur not. I dont care much for CSM gyros as there very particular with setup. Stick a gy401 and 9254 or better still a spartan 760 and 9256. The heli its self is lovely, ive just finished building one myself and love it. It went together sooo easily and looks the dogs . As for the carrymaster well put it this way i know 2 guys who have them and neither use them anymore. About says it all. Apparently its because you cant get much in it. You'd be better off getting the Ripmax Flightbox or something similar as you can fit everything into it, including the Transmitter. Either way the package your looking at isnt bad its just theres better but i suppose its down to a few things like... have you flown before? what kind of budget you on? etc etc

this pops up quite often and is a known issue that even spectrum admit to!

also isnt it a torque tube tail. (better with a belt drive for a beginner)

I agree maybe you will be better off with the belt version of the TRex if your a beginner. Well spotted Ron. Good thing with that package is you get the 2in1 and lipo, governor etc Im not sure if anyone does a package/combo with all the gear you get with the super pro deal.

the torque tube tail has a gear driven rotor(plastic ) and when begining its easy to touch the tail on the ground whilst landing,resulting in broken gears. belts survive this much better!

The torque tubes have a tendancy to strip the gears if you hit the tail etc (obviously something a beginner might do a little more often). Apparently its well known for it.

I am just building a Super Pro kit at the moment. Like all Align kits, they go together very well

BTW Shedracer, if you do decide to go for S3152 servos I have a set of three which are very low use, and in excellent condition. Drop me a PM if yuor interested.

The reason for going with the Super Pro is the overall package, but can you convert the Super Pro tail over to a belt and then in the future use the torque tube when skills are up to it?

Yeh cant see there being a problem with doing that. The super pro is just a blinged up version thats all mate.

Have you been to a club and seen what others have purchased and why they made those decisions?

As stated in other posts, combo deals are for the shops benefit not the customers!

I can't see any point in purchasing the super pro and then purchase the belt drive, you might as well purchase the cheapest T-Rex kit and go from there.

You have been given all the information you need now to get the right kit, the electronics and the right field setup. The rest is down to you.

The super pro combo is a cracking piece of kit, but do you really need it as a 1st heli?
Getting the standard pro combo would save you about a £100(doesn`t have all the bling bits or govenor in it).
That £100 will be better spent on fuel and spares when you break it.
