  • Alloy head parts

    Hi guy's

I'm upgrading my plastic head parts for alloy upgrades, I've just completed the link arms inside the Seesaw which connect the the blade grips and Swash plate.

Now I'm about the replace the arm which has the plastic tear drop linkage to the swash plate, but my Washout Base is still the plastic one.

Will it be OK to take the plastic one off and replace it with the metal arm, as I won't be using thread lock as its a plastic screw hole on the Washout base, I can't see there being a problem, but I'd like to ask you chaps first before I take it apart.

    Many thanks in advance.

OK tomorrow I'm replacing the washout base for my alloy one, and I've got the jitters a little about putting it back in the same position, once it's on the shaft will it just fit into place when all the linkages are snapped back on.

The Jesus bolt is the screw and nut which you take off to remove the head when doing a main shaft replacement, so when I remove the necessary parts to remove the wash out base when the washout arms are removed does this just slide off?

And when the new replacement is put on you slide it into place and the parts will match up as before?

Sorry to ask dumb arse questions, but it occurred to me if this part is positioned in the wrong place, it'll upset the whole head movement, or am I seeing more into this then there is.

Someone did explain in a thread a few days back, but can you explain this as you would to a complete moron, as I'm a little worried about buggering this up in the process of replacing it.

Many thanks for any words of wisdom.

Am I right in thinking the Teardrop arms will level out the W,O,B, then just attach the arms and put back together?

If they are Trex parts, they should simply slot into place with no head alterations required as long as you keep the linkage rods the same.

...and take note of the orientation of the washout base - top to bottom, but also shamfered sides and longer sides of the mixing arms etc.

Better yet, take a photo (or two, or three) of the assembled part, before you take it apart to replace with new bits.

            Cheers,

Mark, Rob, thank you chaps, I took your advice on board and this is where I'm at now

.......YAAAAAAAY all the rota head work carried out, all checked, all screws thread lock tight, checked four times over, with a list of things to make sure I didn't forget anything, I left her to sit around 30 minutes to let the thread lock dry then it was off to the island.

I done test hovers around a minute a go then started doing more tight turns in height and speed, then landed and all was perfect as it should be, then I went for the kill, practicing turning, having loads of fun swooping in long lines, until rain stopped play I was on my forth batt, having what can only be called one hell of a high.

I remember three weeks back looking at the rota head and thinking "what have I got myself into here", this morning it was in pieces and I was having enormous fun carrying out the work upgrading my new alloy parts, then to fly her afterwards knowing you'd put her back together was fantastically satisfying.

This without doubt is the best hobby I've ever taken up, I love photography, but for that you need to visit places, heli flying I have two excellent flying areas on my doorstep and so long as the weather is fine I can practice, if not I have my CX2.

she's almost a completely different helicopter since I first took charge of her, and the experiences just keep getting better

Man, it's been a good day!

Plus tomorrow I take stock of my sixth Li Po a Maxpoly 3s 2500mah yay.

Great to hear you're having such a good time Wayne

I had abit of fun after work too - I got a carry case for the Belt CP yesterday which urged me to take off the training skids (I had been running them short), and guess what, I didn't cash! Put two batteries through too. Only the second time I've flown in three weeks due to gliding holiday in Yorkshire and it being too windy.

Great buzz when you progress isn't it?

                  Thank you Phil

I'm after the Align 450 case sometime soon so it makes carrying everything I need a little easier, I've been meaning to take my training gear off, but right now I use them for orientation purposes only, as landing isn't a problem, plus today I've been changing direction while in mid air, OK it's only been left turns but it's a start.

I was half way through my fourth 2100mah so I'd been flying for the best part of an hour then it started to rain, plus where I'm gaining a little more confidence one batt was actually rather warmish when I removed it, and it still had a couple more minutes of safe zone flight time left in her.

The Buzz is beyond words, and she looks so cool now most of the rota head is blue alloy, as for phoenix I have to be honest, it no longer rocks my boat like it used to, there's no comparison for the real thing, but I still use it as I've some serious right turning issues to iron out before I attempt them for real.

Hey Gary the more the merrier

Oh no mate it's much better at Neck height while hovering, lol.

It was lovely this afternoon, then it blackened over and that was the end of that.

I was practicing left hand turns over the trees today, then reversed her back and repeated the patten.

The conditions were near on perfect, and according to the weather tomorrow isn't supposed to be raining so lets hope we all get some flying in over the weekend.
