  • Had a crash

I was doing circuits and it got the better of me, I broke both washout arms in the seesaw, replaced one, need to order another for the other side, bent feathering shaft, one bearing had jammed tight so I replaced all of that.

She's back to normal apart from the two parts needed, checked over everything else, servos all OK, main shaft perfect, all other parts in the rota head all fine.

Oh well my fourth kiss of the grass in over 40 flights now, I'm happy as Larry, more fixing experience, flying experience, and to look at her now you'd never known she'd been in a slight crash.

All good fun, I actually laughed when it happened, as a member here (Gizmo) Gary came over for a chat and to see the Trex fly, lol and he sure did.

I was flying her in circles around me, and I got a bit dizzy, that's when I lost it lol.

Oh well another days fun flying, I'd flown 8 times today, and this evening when the breeze was a little less harsh then it had been all day, I have to crash, typical.

stick with it mate its only practise... little tip though...
dont get used to flying around in circles like what you have been doing. What happens is you will get too handed to it and find it harder to progress. Another reason being... you will never be able to fly around yourself at a club. Start practising those lazy eights and concentrate on bringing that nose further and further round until eventually you are flying full figure eights/circuits in front of you. Do them really really slowly concentrating hard. Stick with it, you'll get there soon and something will start clicking.

        Jim, Lee, thanks chaps.

Yesterday afternoon I was practicing going around in a square, only very close to the ground, and for me, I was making some pleasing progress. so much so that when I'd depleted two batt's I came back to the house for two more.

I was on such a high you can't imagine, I'd been doing forward, reverse & side to side swooping, practicing having her 5-8 meters either side of me, plus I've cracked the side on hovering with the nose pointing left, nose right side on is impossible for me right now, so I'm going to try and iron out some demons on Phoenix before I try that for real again, plus I had my first ten second nose in hover, yay, yesterday at low level then bottled it and landed.

Plus I'm obtaining some crazy battery minutes, now I do volt check after a flight and there well about the danger level, but I nearly had 15 minutes with one of my Maxpolys in the afternoon, and she still had 3.35-3.40V in each cell, and charged up perfectly when I got back.

They wasn't even very warm when I removed Then from the 450.

Mikes coming over for a bit later, so I'll trade a few pounds of flesh for a few parts lol, which reminds me I must order some extra spares, I hate being grounded due to lack of spares!

Thanks Andy, it's good to know I'm not the only one, I'll be practicing the low, very low circuits once the parts arrive, but even after 2 weeks of solid flying the throttle is much more controlled where your not bumping the ground so much, I've adjusted the curve to help for more softer landings, but it'll still go up like a rocked if need be.

JB, your doing the right thing mate, but I can honestly say flying for real is very different from the sim, but the satisfaction seeing your bird glide through the sky at your controls is one of the most satisfying and enjoyable things your ever do.

Here's hoping you purchase your B400 real soon.

And me. Left no problem, right is an issue. Must be something to do with stronger side of the brain etc.

I'm just getting to nose-in on circuits so I know exactly how you feel.

Considering how you felt a few weeks ago with crashes and repairs etc its great to see how much you have progressed. Great stuff mate. Well done.

Thank you Brin, here's hoping your bird is in the air where she belongs real soon.

Hi David cheers mate, strange isn't it, even on phoenix I can turn left and do all sorts of crazy stuff, but right, man is that a terror zone!

Well done with the nose in flying, now that truly is a difficult stunt to pull off.

Thanks Pete, so many things now make sense and understanding how and why your heli stays up is as important as keeping her flying.

Back then I was at a stage where I could hover OK, but if something went wrong I hadn't a clue how to fix it.

Now I'm racing here forwards and reverse and doing high deep left and right swoops then combining all four and having great fun, plus I understand now what's keeping her going, and small changes that can either make her fly really well or awful.

Many thanks for your kind words everyone.
