Being fixed pitch means the head speeds are significantly lower, which translates to less intimidation to the learner, and less kinetic energy and therefore damage in the event of a crash.

Also, for a beginner, fixed pitch is easier to repair. No need to worry about "zero pitch" and collective/cyclic throws.

I would maintain therefore that the 200SRX is the better beginner heli, although I accept that somebody could learn on a 230S. I think it would be a more difficult learning curve however - complicated by the repair matters I mention above.
Good points I agree. I was thinking that the stability modes would make the 230S beginner friendly, but maybe it's still a step too far for a complete beginner. So the 200 SRX would be a safer bet.

As a relative newbie myself (i have just started flying a 450L but i put alot of time in on the sim). I bought the wife a little blade inductrix quad when i bought my Blade Mcpx Bl. The little quad is fantastic for a beginner learning the controls, it has a self level "easy mode" and a agility mode which makes it feel similar to a heli, its pretty crash proof too. My dad then bought me a Blade nano cp s for christmas, and i have to say its bloody awesome! It self levels like the quad and has two other modes that make it a real super little flyer, the beginner mode is very good for learning indoors and like the quad i'm finding it very crash resistant. The best thing about these two choices is they are (relatively) cheap and they will work with a TX (i have them bound to a DX7). I suppose the only downside is you feel like a flying god when they are in the easy mode, and its a whole different story when you switch it off.
