  • Time and money

    Hi,

I'm totally new and know that you probably get posts like this all the time but I'd like to know how much money and time it would take to build an RC Heli? I want to know the facts before I buy anything.

I would only like a basic model, but one that will last for at least a good few years, with minumum problems.

    Thanks in advance

    Rich

as an example go to http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...eNavigator.htm
    OR
    http://www.skylinemodels.co.uk/

and find the current prices for:

    raptor 30 kit
    os37 engine
rd 6000 radio..tx, rx, four servos
    1 extra futaba 3001 servo
    futaba gy240 gyro
    1400+mah 4.8v battery
    12v gell cell 7ah minimum
    12v starter
glow start of your choice, dont know of any bad ones
    mechanical or electrical fuel pump
tools:good set of 1mm-4mm allan wrenches
    glow plug spanner
    ball link pliers

thats a basic start, you could go a little cheaper on some things, but this would all be stuff that would last a few years and take you into quite advanced flying

other people would recomend a shuttle not a raptor, I wont go into that
Ive heard good things of the kyosho concept 30, but havnt flown one and they are cheap right now because the importer is dropping the range, you might have to mail order for parts abroad though if no new importer
    Above all...DONT BUY A NEXUS
whatever you do, dont buy a Nexus

P.S....YOU CAN BUILD A RAPPY IN A NIGHT OR TWO, but if its your first take your time and double check everything you do..look on taking a week of evenings
    http://www.raptortechnique.com/
It may take longer for tthe setup learning the radio functions/terminology

As a guideline, start with approx 600 and work from there.

I would highly recommend a Sim too.
G3 or GSM are both great.

Have seen G3, and flown on it, and own CSM.

The cost for CSM is approx 60, and is worth every penny (you'd spend more in crash kits and time than you would save by not buying a sim)

G3 gives you the option to network and fly realtime with others (over the net).

              Caliber 30

Good Choice - can be bought for 150 ARTF from Midland Heli's.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm looking to embark on the project (if i can raise the cash ) in the summer, when I'm not so busy.

Cheers again and I'll keep posted on here
