  • Belt cp tail servo problems

    Hi guys, me again

Just replaced the boom for my belt cp and test flown it this morning and there seems to be sort of problem and not sure if its the servo (brand new) or the way i have set it all up after changing the boom?

When in a hover (no problems) and then a move stick to rotate left in goes very slow (about 1-2 seconds to do a full spin on axis), on the right side it seems to be twice as quick as before i changed the boom.

I have a HH giro and all seems fine except the rotation?

    Can any one help?

    Thanks

It sounds like you have the servo in a diferent place check the movement of the tail slider with the heli on the ground and see if moves farther in one direction than the other. if it does then the location of the servo is not the same as on the old boom..

As was alluded to by xygax, you probably need to set the position of the servo on the boom.

The usual way of doing this is this:

      1) With the heli on the ground, rotors stationary, select HH mode and set any rudder trim necessary to stop the tail servo creeping (if you have a decent gyro this will be zero). Unplug and reconnect the battery to be sure.

      2) Turn off HH mode and hover the heli. Note how much rudder you have to use to keep the heli stable.

      3) Land and move the servo on the boom to compensate for the rudder you had to hold.

      4) Repeat 2 and 3 until you don't need any rudder input in non-HH mode.

      5) Switch back to HH mode, and the heli should fly perfectly.

      Hope that helps.

        Hello again

Can anyone tell me were i can get a servo holder for the tail servo of a belt cp or one i could use that sits on the boom (just snapped mine, arrrrrgggghhhh)

Just found out they come in a Vertical & Horizontal Tail Blade Set, but if anyone can still advise of any others, it will save me having to buy a new set again.

hi, i might have a cnc tail servo mount you can have - i'll go and have a look for you

belt cp tail servo problems V2

              Hello again!

Guys tried everything i can to get this to work, still the same keeps spinning anticlockwise, i have moved the servo back a little at a time with the head lock off and no difference, if i apply full stick then it only goes anticlockwise a lot slower.

I have also checked the belt to make sure now twists, i have also moved servo position (other way round, upside down).

The one thing i have noticed is that when i switch heli on there is a lot of creaping in the servo?, i can correct this with slider movement, but then the servo does not correct its self when i use full stick to left or right (stock servo , new).

Another thing that also happens, is that when i center the servo arm and then switch on heli the servo can jump half way round (as if it is centering it's self).

So from just changing, boom and servo holders, i have not been able to fly for 2 weeks, best weather in the last 2 weeks was today and i could not fly - bummer>>>>>>>

i have attached a pic to show how it's set up.

Hope somebody can help as i want to go and fly, but just doing my head in sorting this problem out.

              Thanks

I have seen people report that it can be hard to stop the belt/ king spinning unless you up the head speed a bit. On the stock radio you can turn down the pitch trim which will have the effect of upping the head speed (sorry, no idea which knob that would be).

                Other things to check are:

                * Tail rotor turning the correct way (up at front).
                * Tail blades both on the correct way.
                * Gyro sense (turning the heli anticlockwise by hand increases pitch on the tail blades).

If by 'the servo does not correct itself' you mean the servo does not recentre when you release the control, then this is correct behaviour in HH mode (it's still trying to execute your last command). You need to set the trim for minimal creep, switch to non-hh mode, and set the servo position to allow for a stable oge hover. I'm assuming you're using the esky HH gyro, so you'll also need to recentre the trim when you switch on to get the gyro to initialize. Really, moving the trim to eliminate the creep is a hack.

The servo should jump to 'centre' as the gyro initializes itself. If that's not what you're seeing I have no idea.

Gyros are sensitive to vibration, and a good 2/3rds of the new BeltCP main shafts I got were unusably bent from the factory. The CSM gyro mount is good for combatting vibration but you're better off fixing it at source.
