  • Blade 400 or Twister storm?

Hi all, I am realtively new to RC helicopters. I bought a Twister medivac about 6 months ago. Iv'e had a few crashes along the way and replaced alot of blades but can now 'walk' it in and out of any room in my house with confidence. I have tried it outside on a very calm day but realise It's not for outdoors.I now feel ready to move up a notch. I have been reading alot of articles about the Blade 400 and Twister Storm but I cannot make the final decision between the two, so I could do with some advice from anyone willing to give it! I use Clearview flight simulation ,not Phoenix, so don't know if this is any good or not?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Julian

hi jules welcome to the forum

they are basicly the same helicopter!
the frames differ slightly and the blade has digital servo's(at this level i dont think that really makes any difference)
price wise there is not much in it also. the blade comes complete with radio for around £270.
the twister without for around £150 + radio for £110(assuming you want a dx6i) cheaper radio's are available!
if your very new to rc set up the blade wins if your reasonably confident the twister can save you a few quid!

they both fly very simlarly and well so its your choice really

ditch the clearview phoenix is the best heli sim bar non!!

      Thanks for the help

Thanks for that. Iv'e just watched your test flight of the blade and it looks great. I think I'll probably get the blade as its ready to go.

Phoenix have closed so is it a good idea to purchase this software? I have read that they are looking to start again and could possibly offer support in the interim period! I'm unsure.

Anyway thanks again for the help.

Jules, basically i agree with boggy although you can find things a bit cheaper now. The twister you can find without the carbon blades for 100 and a dx6i with 6200 receiver for 90 so you will get it a fair bit cheaper. However, the blade is slightly better and if this is your first cp heli then i would definately go for the blade as it is well set up and frankly that makes all the difference when you are learning. I started with the twister but got the set up wrong, countless crashes and repairs followed until i learned from this forum how to set it up properly. So for value the twister wins but you will only get the value if you can get someone to set it up properly for you.

Not sure what you mean regarding phoenix. They certainly haven't closed. It is by far the best sim and how i learned to fly and what has given me the confidence to got with a 600. Just in case you got the wrong website theirs is www.phoenix-sim.com. You should be able to buy it from any decent model shop or direct. THe dx6i plugs straight into it and works perfectly.

          A blade it is then.

Thanks Alex for the help and for putting me right on the Phoenix issue. I think I must have been looking at a different website like you said.

Anyway I will be picking up my blade on Friday so here's hoping for a dry weekend. No doubt I will be back for more help and hopefully to share some successes also.

Once again thanks for your help

I think the Blade 400 would be the best bet, plus many members here have the same bird, it comes complete with the great DX6i, plus the spares are dirt cheap.

I can't comment on the Twister, but if the guys say it's good then trust them.

Personally I'd go for the B400, right now it's top of the tree in the RTF range of CCPM heli's.

I've been toying with it, been practicing engine failures on Phoenix till I'm blue in the face, and most times now can get it back into a space smaller than my back garden without any power. Also seem reasonably able to hover it with Ron's settings up to around a hundred feet in a mild wind. If the real thing is similar to Phoenix then with my mate's initial help when I get it I don't see me having much bother.... (famous last words)

                Phoenix

Iv'e downloaded the demo version so far and it certainly is a far better piece of software than clearview. I will certainly invest in it and practice on the blade 400 before taking to the air with the real thing!

Does anyone know of a plug in adaptor for the charger on the blade as I don't think there is one in the box? I could be wrong of course.

Just wait until you use Phoenix for real, it's even more realistic then what the demo offers in visual quality.

Your heading in the right direction now mate, as for the charger socket, forget about it, four Duracell's last ages while using the TX.

                  And I mean ages.

If you want to spend some money invest in some spares, plenty of upper and lower rota's, inner and outer shaft, more batt's and possibly another charger.

I use a 12V 12amp motor cycle battery as the power source for my 800mah CX2 batts which easily gives me ten minutes plus per flight, buy another charger £15, and with four CX2 batts your have plenty of flight time.

                  Check out this link

                  http://www.budget-rc.co.uk/RC_Mega_S...7571feacbc27d4

You can almost buy four of these for one E-Flite batt, there out of stock right now, but well worth placing an order to secure a few when they arrive.

There's plenty of mods you can do with the CX2 but IMHO just keep her as she is, the standard blades are just fine and offer great stability, as for bling again save the money for spares, I blinged my last one and TBH it made no difference to her flying at all.

Julian, the one for the Twister Storm 440 works funny enough. I bought 2 of them from Model Shop Leeds.

                      Julian.

Another forum member "timmy" lives very near you and fly's a T-Rex 450SE v2 at my place here and also fly's it locally to him.

Try sending him a PM and watching him fly that, Also another member "Dougie" who also fly's a Blade 400 3D and a T-Rex 450 can show you those flying too if arranged.

Shoot timmy a PM and ask if you can see it flying..

He is at the 3D Clubman at Goole today but will be home later this evening FYI.

JUles, you're welcome to come over here mate, I got a co-axial Bell47 you can try, Blade 400 and Phoenix.

The Bell is similar to the BCX2, and just as easy to fly, its cheaper too, about 80 quid, though its doesn't come as stock with 2.4Ghz TX, but 35Mhz.

Gaz, thanks for the advise and invite. I might just take you up on your offer.

Went to watch some nitro's flying last night at my local club KADMAC. Must say it was very gusty but the heli's were not affected by this. Took my 5 year old along and given half the chance he'd have a go too!

Just like to say thankyou to everyone who replied. It's nice to know that people are at hand to help.

                            Thanks
