  • DX7 or 9XII dilemma

Returning to the hobby after 5 years and need help with deciding on a transmitter. I used to fly a raptor 60 with a JR 3810 ADT. This time around I’m looking at the T-REX 600 super pro combo but struggling with the transmitter choice.

    Option 1 new Spektrum DX7
Option 2 a second hand JR PCM 9XII, but how do you tell if it’s an import? And if imported sets aren’t an issue then maybe option 3
Option 3 new imported JR DSX9 what are the pit falls if any of an imported set?

I was told you can’t get imported sets serviced and certain clubs wont allow you to use them. Is this true?

    Thanks for your comments

1 depends if you want 7 channels or 9 surely!
2 if its a uk set it will have a c/e sticker on it somewhere.
3 i believe imported sets are higher power and illeagl to use in this country

this is assuming your in houston scotland and not texas!!

also just a thought but the dx6i has switchable power levels maybe the dsx9 does?? (dx 7 doesn't)

if it is houston, scotland then you have a few clubs round about you. i would go see what they fly there as you might need them for buddy box (assuming you can't fly already) and also you can get some help programming if needed.

my own club is not far from houston (waterfoot heli club) and there is clyde valley fliers (99% plane club) all fairly local to you.

if it was me i would say get the dx7 and forget imported stuff. if you have a crash with imported gear you have no insurance. if you want to see dx7's, trex,s etc then just pop along and you can see the radios/helis for yourself before deciding if you wish.

      cheers

No brainer for me, DX7 all the way 2.4G and half the cost.
Don't go for imports, if it doesn't have a CE stamp, it will be illegal in this country and then if you had an accident, your BMFA insurance would be invalid. Be carefull.

Unless you are into scale then get a DX7 and don't waste your money on the other 2 IMHO

Nah, the 9X2 rocks, when I converted to the DX7 I really missed many of the functions from the 9X and couldn't wait to get the 2.4 version of it.

If you can afford to go for the 9XII or the DSX9, it is much easier to program and probably the best quality radio out there at the moment.

i will disagree with thomas here. i was a jr man through and through for 15 years and i had a pair of 9x2's and they were superb. i have had a dx9 in my hands and it smacks of cheapness...like the dx7 to be fair but the dx7 is cheap. i think jr have made a mistake pitching the dx9 at the price it is. you would think the module is built in but you can tell the module is an afterthought in the dx9. was very dissapointed in it when i seen it i'm sorry to say. if i was doing it i would buy a 9x2 (still a great radio, nothing changes that) and put a module in it and save the money or wait until the dx9 normalises.

                cheers

Fair cop, I've never seen a DX9, but have seen the 9303 2.4 which I thought was the same.

thomas, maybe it's just me. i'm sure it is a great radio but when you open the box it doesn't shout out 600 quid rrp if you know what i mean.

                    cheers

Fair comments there Paul but my DSX9 was £399 from Inwoods.. TX only of course.

BTW: Its my first JR radio and can honestly say its the dogs dangley's and I love it..

                      I have had Futaba FF7/FF9 Spektrum DX7/DX6i

The DX7 is really nice at half the price though but you do get what you pay for IMO..

Not quite - the 9303 2.4G has the analogue throttle trim, the DSX9 doesn't - it has digital trims all round.

However, they are pretty much the same elsewhere I believe.

I've just converted my 9xii to 2.4G with a Spektrum module - it is exactly the same as the DSX9, except that it doesn't have Model Match or Servo Synch.

IMO, these two differences are negligible, or even irrelevant.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll defiantly avoid an import and probably the second hand market which leaves me with the DX7 and the DSX9.
SMC are doing the DSX9 for 475 so might see if the budget can be stretched.
