Myriad of wires coming from ESC

Hi Folks,
I joined the forum in 2013 with a view of getting into building and flying rc helicopters. However, due to personal reason this didn't happen up until last week when I bought a second hand Trex 450 pro FBL conversion heli. I bought it from a top bloke who is very knowledgeable and has many many different makes and sizes of helicopters. He advised that I strip the heli down to clean and lube it etc. As I'm totally new to the hobby I have stumbled upon my first problem in that I can't identify the ESC or the masses of wires coming from it apart from the obvious ones. I am hoping some of the more experienced guys or girls could have a look at the photo I have attached and hopefully will be able to assist me?
I would have contacted the chap I bought the heli from but he works off shore and is away for the next four weeks.

First of all welcome to the hobby :-) It sounds like you've jumped in at the deep end like I did, except I picked up a 15yr old 600 size nitro, and spent a fun year tinkering with it!

What I will ask though is whether you've done any flying before? If this is your first heli you may well want some practice before you fly it, otherwise your hard work rebuilding it could well end up in a dozen pieces during your first flight.

I've attached my attempt at identifying what you have there, but right at the top you have a castle quick connect:

Welcome to the forum, what do you want to know about what you've got in front of you. Essentially you've got an XT 60 which goes to your pack, hanging on that you've got what looks like a 10A Castle BEC which supplies power to the RX you have. The three colour coded wires out the back are for connection to the motor.The little red connector across 2 of the motor phases is a JST and is being used as a phase (rpm) sensor for motor speed feedback for the governor function in the ESC or flybarless unit. The servo connector coming form the Castle quick connect is the throttle signal from your Rx or flybarless unit. Not sure what the random servo plug connector to the left is

ok Jim I'll have a stab at it, but it might not be right and certainly not complete, but here goes, first obviously the battery goes to the yellow plug, this feeds the bec (square) and the esc (blue wrap) the bec goes to the motor (blue/red/black) plugs. The thinner (servo lead) goes to the receiver (batt) port, it has a quick connect extension on so one plug (short) will stay accessible on outside so you can link to pc. The (servo) lead from esc (blue wrap) goes to the throttle port on receiver. Not sure on the Y lead to the right, hopefully someone else can chip in. Good luck, the lesson here is take pics or notes 'before' it looks like a bowl of spaghetti haha

The esc is a castle ice 50 lite. With a 10a bec pro.
The quick connect is for setting up and reading data from the esc without unplugging it from the recover.

The BEC Pro is a very different unit. The one shown is CC BEC 10A

Thanks for the reply. I have been playing about with a 250 size heli, just gentle hovering etc. I have also stripped it down on occasions to change parts.
I don't intend steaming in and trying to get the 450 flying. I was only stripping it down to clean and get some experience putting it back together again as the guy I bought it from hadn't flown it for some time and advised that I do so. I am going to join a local flying club once I get more info about it and hopefully some sim practice.

Thanks, any info is off great help I can assure you. I thought about taking a photo of it but everything was jammed in real snug and once you start pulling it apart you say to yourself, It can't be that difficult to put back together! Lesson learned. Also, I didn't know what make of ESC I had as nothing was labelled apart from the CC part.

Aaah, cool. If you're flying a 250 already you'll love the 450, just be aware it's going to break a bit more than the 250 if you do crash it. The 450 should be a lot more stable though, and a bit calmer in the air.

I'm a big fan of both my Trex 250 and Gaui X3, so you've got a good size pair of birds there :-)
