When I started, after doing a bit of reading, I was convinced that pinch grip would be better. But when I tried it just felt terrible so I stuck with thumbs which just works for me. Maybe sign of a mis-spent youth of gaming?

I can fly a backward inverted hurricane and funnel but have difficulty flying backwards right way up, think the move explorer is a good tool to use to see where I'm lacking apart from the backwards rwu. Think I'll work through the moves on the sim first then try real life with the basher! It's also good to know I'm not alone.

I used to use my thumbs but found that I couldn't get the precision so switch to pinching then last night I tried doing the slow piros with thumbs and I was awful!!!

I changed from thumbs to pinch, took about a month to get used to it but now I've changed I'm going to stick with it.

I've pretty much been following it since starting CP's in November last year. I just happened to stumble across it (I think I googled something like 'progressing from tail-in hover')?!
I haven't yet started a log but have realised I should as I do get down on the odd occasion thinking nothings improving. I don't think I'm a particularly fast learner so haven't really progressed passed unpright & inverted piros and still struggling with holding a figure of 8 for more than a couple of rounds. I did manage my first ever inverted hover in real life (mcpx) yesterday - that was a real buzz and shows the piros do work. Having just looked back at this thread just realised the thread starter is much further down the path than I realised (and a advanced collection of heli's!) but thought I'd put my thoughts down anyway for any other beginners who consider that route. I found it clear and simple (compared to some other paths) and it has helped me loads. Can't do pinching though...

I think the log does help, well for me any way. I didnt realise how much time I had spent on it but 15mins here and 15mins there soon adds up.

check zfloop on you tube, he has a funnel tutorial, i recommenced that you learn to fly backwards first though, then this practice will get easier, fly high at the field and sim indoors all the way, it is a fantastic tool.

I've been following it for about a month (about 1h a day), as a newbie I've seen huge improvements. I can hover upright and inverted in all orientations, my rainbows are pretty decent and I even manage to do some really bad tic tocs (all in the sim). Haven't trained the yaw yet.

I'm keeping a log, and plan to translate this training regime to spanish adding some improvements I find along the way.

Best thing is that you train one control at a time, it's incremental, every step adds a small challenge, and when you combine them all...voila....you fly!

It requires discipline, but the effort is worth it.
