  • Brushless motor

As you may know am new here and working through some teething problems :-)

When I received my heli (Esky Honey Bee King 2) I noticed there's a brand new brushless motor in it's original Esky packaging unused. I have looked at this and see that the battery connections are much different to the standard plug already on the heli and current batteries. Do I need some sort of adapter to install this motor (once I learn to fly!) ?

    Hi Tom,

If your King2 is still running the original brushed motor then you will need a new ESC to match the brushless motor. It will give you plenty more power and flight time and It's probably the one and only upgrade you should do to the King.

Measure the male bullet connectors (3.5mm?) on the motor wires and solder their female counterparts to the new ESC, 30amp should be fine. As far as battery connectors go my favourite are EC3 - the blue jobbies for their ease of soldering and connecting & disconnecting.

    Cheers, Marty

      Hi Marty,

It already has a new ESC with it. It was the connection from is to the battery I was referring to. I guess I can change the battery connectors to any plug so long as they're the same type then?

Thanks for help so far 😉

Something to bear in mind is that a lot of 3 cell packs that would suit your King come with XT60 connectors already fitted. They can be a fiddle to disconnect sometimes but if you went this route it would save soldering with every new pack.

                Cheers, Marty

Hey guys ok here we go with first photo uploads!

Firstly here's the new brush less motor that came with the heli.

Followed by the original battery connections (red),

And also a close up of the power connection of the new motor setup.

The new motor has its esc included with it by the looks and its connection is a "deans" type. you will need to change the battery connector to deans. (do not change the connector to suit the battery its not strong enough.)

Deans Connectors: Radio-Controlled | eBay most model shops should stock them. they are losing popularity and most would recommend changing to EC3 or XT60 connectors.

Marty Mole Hunter is correct. It is most likely that any extra battery packs you buy will have decent XT60 connectors. A bit of research will pay off.

1.Decide on what connectors you want to go with.
2.If you haven't done so already, buy a soldering iron and learn to solder.
3.Replace the existing connectors with your chosen type, female on the battery, male on the ESC. (In my opinion the little red JST plugs on your battery aren't good enough, their current rating is very low). There is probably little wrong with the deans type of plug that you have on the esc but I don't like them.

You should then have a good reliable set up. Good luck.

Cool, bit of useful info Ron, that's what I was after, so get one to match the one on the esc for the battery. And the name is the main help as I already tried googling but too vague a search!

                            Thanks Mike,

Just replied to Rons post above, think you all posted around same time. The type of connector (Deans) will help I'll change that so I can fit the new motor. I have the soldering gear and can solder, 20 years working on ships as an Engineer, I hope I learned something, just not about RC Helis haha :-)

yes mate as Mike said above the existing little red jst plug on the battery is not strong enough.Either change that to deans to match the esc. Or alternatively change both to XT60 or EC3
