I disagree with that. Had loads of fun flying in the house over the last month. Sim is great for learning at home (I agree better than anything else as you are not limited by physical space) but it is nowhere near as much fun as flying a micro around the house. Considering that a decent micro heli/quad only costs about £60-80 they are almost a must-have unless you are able to fly outdoors daily. The sim alone would drive me insane!

Dispite been a quad does it fly an handle the same as a fixed pitch would? Guessing the controls are the same, if yes I think that can be my inside trainer

In theory, yes. Small quads are on paper, similar to self-stabilising fixed pitch helis. In reality however quads don't really prepare you for a single-rotor helicopter. You gain a bit of muscle memory regarding controls, but in terms of aerodynamic characteristics and how a heli "feels", quads are very different.

Quads indoors are fun, but I would still say for best progression, use a sim indoors and focus on flying a heli outside.

My Nano QX certainly does NOT self-stabilise at all when in agility mode. I have no experience of CP helis beyond plenty of time using a sim (neXt), but this quad handles just like CP helis do in the sim (when in agility mode at least). For example apply the tiniest bit of cyclic and it darts off instantly and needs a counter input to stop it. Other people with more experience have said that the Nano QX behaves much like a CP heli and I think it's true from what I've experienced. Obviously you can't fly it 3D and it doesn't teach anything about pitch curves etc, but for learning cyclic control in the house without any hassle I think it's brilliant.

Edit: One other thing I've noticed about the quad, is that it doesn't seem to suffer from ground effect like a heli. Probably a plus point for flying in a tight space, but something to consider.

It's working for me. I'm alternating between the nQX and sim. The nQX is zero maintenance so you can fly it loads in complete safety. Fast, fun, simple.
