  • trex or esky bearing in mind budget

Hi im new to forums so please bear with me.I used to fly rc planes when i was younger and my dad always flew helis,I had a small 4 channel helicopter a few years back and have owed some more plus quadcopters recently. The thing is I want to buy a 6 channel heli now,ive been looking at the esky belt cpx and cp v2 carbon edition both rtf for around £160-£230 although the v2 is right at the top of my price range and not in stock anywhere,I prefer the metal parts on the v2 and the over all look.To really confuse matters I visited a model shop today and got told the esky stuff is no good and that i should look at the Trex 500 for £230 without transmitter and battery's.To be perfectly honest i work a lot and am busy with small kids so Im unlikely to get stuck into this hobby full on at the moment but after seeing the quality of the Trex I really want one but cant quite justify the price at the present time.Basically i was wondering if anyone here owns a esky and what their views are?Thank you for your patience and help.

Hi dp340 welcome to the forum. your lhs was right esky stuff is kinda dated and low quality. but they were wrong to point you towards a trex500 on that budget. Maybe consider something like this?

I just bought an ESky helicopter, knowing that it will be cheap 'n nasty. That's the reason why i bought it though, as somebody with no experience, i will crash quite a few things from now on, and cheap 'n nasty is exactly what i wanna crash before i ascend to the next level and put some real money in.

Then again, gathering from your posting, you seem to have experience with flying in general, so i wouldn't go ESKy (even though i looked at the Honey Bee and Belt CP as well). On the other hand, i don't really know what i'm talking about. :P

        Hi,

depends on where your flying, is there room for 450?

A blade 300x for £150ish plus a Spektrum DX6i £40 (used on eBay) might be the way to go - these are flybarless and use the BeastX flybarless unit so a really good piece of kit.

There was a blade 450x on eBay for £160 which is a bargain, there is one on here in the for sale section at £140 but has the 3GX rather than the beastX unit.

I would look at getting a trex 450 off this forum second hand tbh. Around the 190-220 mark then a second hand dx6i or old dx7. You can normally pick up a heli off here with a few lipos too. So this all should be within your budget.

Not to bad just a shame the BeastX has been changed to a 3GX although nothing really wrong with that unit.
