Srx200

Hi guys, I'm new to the site and new to rc helli flying. A few days ago I bought the srx200. I chose this one as it has the SAFE recovery and switchable flight modes, so it will progress as I do. I have it hovering and can move it around (keeping the tail at me) and all was going wel, until yesterday, I was hovering about 2foot off the ground when it started spinning really fast on the spot until it hit the ground. Luckily it only did minor damage, it cracked the skids, bent the tail boom a tiny bit and broke the tail blades, I put on a new one and tried again, on full throttle the main blades were only turning about once per second and smoke came from somewhere, I shut the throttle off immediately.
Am I missing something or should I just take it back to the shop? Will the shop take it with the damage?

Morning James. Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you originally had some sort of tail failure which caused the crash and has damaged the esc. first port of call is the shop you bought it at, they should help. If you get no joy there contact Horizon Hobbies there customer service is superb ( best by telephone ) .

Welcome to the forum James! As Ron (boggy) mentions, Horizon Hobby's support is generally excellent, so if the shop doesn't sort it out for you, HH almost certainly will. They'll probably ask you to post the heli to them, but they generally fix them and post them back FOC within 3-4 days.

Otherwise, good choice with the 200SRX, it really is perfect for your level. It sounds like the tail rotor failed causing the primary crash - either the tail blades broke for some reason or the motor failed in some manner. As Ron says, it sounds like the resulting crash damaged the ESC (speed controller) which is the usual source of smoke when things go wrong.

From your description of the crash, sounds like you were fairly unlucky, but HH should sort you out!

thanks guys, iv phoned the shop i got it from and they don't sound convinced the crash was due to a malfunction (which i can understand, being a learner) but said bring it in and they will have a look at it for me, so i'm off tomorrow to see what they say. are they likely to say they wont help me because it is broken! even though the damage was caused by the malfunction?
iv been on the internet looking at the problems with the srx200 and the tail rotor looks to be a common one, but like you guys say, HH are apparently very helpful.
i'll keep you all posted on how it goes and what the model shop say.

i took it back to the shop on Saturday and explained the problem i had, the bloke powered it up and held it whilst he applied the throttle, obviously noticed something and did something to the tail, started it up again and flew it without a problem. they did replace the broken parts free of charge and said if it happens again just bring it back in, iv flew it twice since without a problem.

Yea I can't fault them, they were really helpful. and as for carrying stock, I think they have every spare going for the blade 200 :-)
