Its not so much stability you need to worry about. with co'ax heli's one pair of rotors is always creating lift so in a breeze you close the throttle to decend the heli starts to drop till the wind picks up under the lifting blades and away it goes!with it being heavy you may get away with it but be carefull

Sorry to burst your bubble, but even a VERY large co-axial without a swash plate is basically a kite in anything stronger than dead calm weather ... (edit: see below for a beginner heli with single-rotors and a swash plate)Originally posted by collis View PostThanks for making the images work.
I wouldnt take the 2 smaller ones outside, but the big one is quite heavy so may have a bit of stability want the correct weather first though before it goes out to be flown at my local rugby ground.
Compare the above to this ... a beginner heli with proper controls and a swash plate ...
Bottom line - your helis will be fun, but pretty much for indoors only, or days when there is zero wind!Last edited by tomatwalden; 03-01-2015, 09:24 PM.Tom

Hope i am not speaking out of turn.I am new to this hobby. One thing i have learnt is that you will crash and most of the time it will cost you money.Every week end I crashed my trex 500 on first flight but you pick your self up and repair it and have another go.So to the point dont go flying thinking to much about crashing or the cost of repairing it. You wont ever enjoy this hobby
I got a blade 200 from my wife £150.00 crashed on 2 flight and get some new parts and fly it again.Do you see my point.
Welcome and enjoy.Blade 200SRX

I well accept that ill crash regardless, after all, there are 2 types of pilot:
Has crashed
Not yet crashed
My smaller indoor helis have both been crashed ine into a wall a lot and the other has trimmed the xmas tree and decs (untill the bottom drive gear fell off and it fell out the "sky").
Ive been looking at videos etc like the ones shared with me and seen another brand "double horse" and thought that my largest heli has a lot to compare with it apart from the co-axial blade and rear motor orientation, so i was thinking of retrofitting the larger heli in time to be a single blade with swash plate abd change the rear rotor orientation. Do you think this coild be done in the future?
To give a bitbof background onyself, im an IT admin and have worked with model boats before, this is my first time looking at modifying flying items.

Not a chance! ... and it's not something worthwhile anyway to be honest. Even if you could find the right shaft, swash plate etc., you'd never be able to mount the servos to drive it .. then you'd need to change the controller to a proper one that understands a swash plate. You'd spend hundreds of pounds, and probably hours for something that you couldn't repair in a crash.... with me and seen another brand "double horse" and thought that my largest heli has a lot to compare with it apart from the co-axial blade and rear motor orientation, so i was thinking of retrofitting the larger heli in time to be a single blade with swash plate abd change the rear rotor orientation. To be honest, once you get to that stage, you'll have long forgotten about your co-axials. Personally I never found they lasted very long anyway as one of the motors invariably gave out (being brushed) turning them into paper weights.Tom

I also don't want to appear negative but those co-axials are really nothing like flying a 'normal' single rotor heli. Yes they are super stable and incredibly easy to fly, but you never really have much control over them. The basic problem with them is that there is no roll control, so you cant bank them from side to side. Without banking you cant even perform a proper turn, you are very much at the mercy of even the slightest breeze.
Have fun with them by all means but be prepared for a steep learning curve when you switch to a conventional heli because the flying experience is chalk and cheese..Goblin Kraken, SoXos Strike 7, XLPower Specter, Goblin Black Thunder T, Goblin 700 Speed, Goblin 770 Comp Carbon, Trex 700X, Kasama Dune, Henseleit TDR
