New RC Pilot

Hi all
Im new here and thought id introduce myself.

Ive got 3 helis all together but only 1 suitable for outdoor use.
My collection consists of the following:
"Sky" ir mini helicopteris

"Fast Lane" 3 channel rc, helicopter

And...
"Brite Power" 3.5 channel helicopter.


Ill upgrade to the major brands eventually but for now im happy with these.

My most recent 2 were given as xmas presents, whilst the fast lane one could go outdoors i think illl keep it for the house, the brite power is outdoor only.
Ive never flown anything large before and a bit nervous to break my new helicopter so ws wondering if anyone could give some advice on flying it and not ending up having to replace it after my 1st real flight (1" off the ground doesnt count in my book).

Im in Cardiff - south wales if anyone is near me as id love to meet up with a seasoned pilot or many and get valuable flying tips.

Hi Collis,

Worth taking a read of RC Helicopters - A Super Fun & Rewarding Hobby ... it's a really useful site for people new to the hobby.

You will probably find that you quickly outgrow these helis. The "3.5 channel" is a bit of a marketing trick. To have full control in flight, you need at least a 4-channel heli. 3.5chan helis will REALLY struggle outside too - regardless of size unless there is ZERO wind.

Doesn't sound like a big difference does it? 3.5 versus 4. In reality, the difference is huge! 4, and 6-channel helis use something called a "swash plate" to control direction. It's what makes helis so manoeuverable and fun to fly! The 3.5 helis and below don't have a swash plate, and rather rely on a horizontal "fan" on the tail to generate forward motion.

Have fun with them! But perhaps look at something like a Blade mSRX RTF as your next move.

Advice? - well you've come to the right place but joining a local club is by far the quickest way to learning.

If you're worried about taking along your helis then don't until you get to know the people there.

I've added pictures of the 3 helicopters that I own.

i'm a little nervous about flying my big heli outdoors as i dont want to crash it too badly but if anyone has tips for a safe flight then i'd be happy to receive them

Tbh Collis be nervous about flying any of them out doors in anything but perfectly calm conditions (absolutely zero breeze) co'ax helis are notorious for flying away on the wind.
