I've been suffering crash-phobia most of the second half of this year..mostly down to all the crashes in the first half (a lot of technical issues despite checks and for sure a fair few dumbo moves).
At the end of the day you just have to slap yourself and go back out there - albeit with a cheaper to repair model.

I remember this years and years ago and again recently having got my first 'big heli' for a while, originally i overcame it by having 2 identical raptor 50's, they were both OS50 Hyper/MP2 powered with GY611 gyros and identical in every way except canopy colour, the fear of loosing/breaking one was greatly reduced, if one did go in then the other would get started up and flown straight away to 'get back on the horse' as it were, this took away a huge amount of the anxiety related to 'loosing one' and also crashing one, at the time the building and constant maintenance were a great distraction from other crap i had going on at the time as well...

At the moment i have a Trex 550 pro, i do worry about it going in but also have invested in a spares backup of the most commonly damaged parts (blades/boom/shafts/etc) so if it were to go in and be a 'minor incident' then it can be up and running the next day but in the new year i will be looking for a second larger heli to give me that peace if mind redundancy again, i like the look of the Gaui range but am alway concerned about what the future spares availability will be like...

I also have a small Trex 250, great little heli, only had it a couple of weeks and crashed it a few times so far as its small enough to take liberties with and try new stuff, so far all it's had is a main shaft and 2 feathering spindles from putting it in twice inverted and a repair bill of less than a tenner in total, nice cheap crashing...

With regards to the sim, i'm not a huge fan, some people use it for strict practice but i find even just messing about it helps build that all important muscle memory and i'm rarely on it for more than about half an hour at a time much preferring to get out there and fly the real thing and just have a strict flight or 2 really focused on improving out of each flying day, i'm hoping for a couple of calm days soon so i can get my all orientations inverted hover back to where it used to be, i've gotten lazy...

I've probably asked before, where do you fly near Orpington?

I used to have a Century Predator gasser and it made me really nervous at first. Over time you lose that mild feeling of terror and I kinda miss it sometimes. But for me, I have to be relaxed to fly well, there's a balance to be struck between concentration and being able to just enjoy the moment and that's where the best buzz happens for me.
